IPA...? Really, I'm thinking Stout but whatever, this is a fine beer! I have the fireplace going and Firestone fits right into this chilly night. The Rye is fine, why not Rye Stout?, don't worry, I'm going on a three brewery, three hour tour soon so perhaps I can figure this out?

Been waiting for a fresh batch to review. Bottled on 9/27/13, so only a few weeks old. Beer pours a dark brown, bordering on black, with three fingers of fluffy light tan colored head. Head sticks around for several minutes before it begins to dissipate, leaving thick lacing, and maintaining half a finger of height.

Big hoppy aromas, sweet orange, grapefruit, pineapple, light pine, some spicy peppery notes, and a little bit of caramel. Also some alcohol detected.

Very bitter upfront, citrus peel and pine bitterness with some dark roasted malt flavors, mellowing to some sweeter orange and pineapple with caramel flavors. Not much of the rye influence in the taste as the hops are really strong when fresh. Dry with lingering citrus peel bitterness on the tongue, with some alcohol in the back of the throat.

Medium body, a bit slick and oily on the tongue with some light carbonation. Very much a DIPA, with just a roasted malt accent on it. Pretty tasty overall.
