Imagine yourself in Berlin’s Tiergarten enjoying this refreshing Berliner Weisse inspired beer on a warm summer’s day. Bretta Weisse honors the traditional beverage of the great Prussian capital, Berlin. Fredrick-the-Great was trained to brew it, and Napoleon’s troops called it “The champagne of the North”. Firm estery notes of stone and tropical fruit lead to Funky, yeasty, citrus aromas. Soft cereal and Oak flavors are enveloped by a firm acidity and tartness. The finish is dry and crisp; a thoroughly enjoyable beverage. At 4.9% ABV, one could imagine enjoying several Bretta Weisse’s in the Tiergarten, or anywhere else. This Berliner Weisse inspired Wheat beer was aged in 1700 gal French Oak horizontal foeders for 8 months.

On tap at The Brass Tap, Cedar Falls, IA. Served in a snifter. Hazy dull orange in color, with a brilliant white head that settled to a thin cap. Light bodied as expected. Aroma is fruity and citrusy, with a bit of funk. These notes are present on the palate, with a bright but not overpowering tartness. Finishes clean and crisp, with a little astringence. This is a very nicely balanced, easy drinking, and overall excellent beer.

Pours light, brilliant yellow with high carbonation and a soft, fluffy, airy head of foam. Aroma is lemons and yeast profiles, while taste reveals lemon, citrus in a very sour wrapper. The beer is light, tart and lemonness -- a bit of summer packed into a beer bottle.

12 oz corked and caged bottle (first time I can ever recall seeing that combo). Batch No. 003, bottled on 05/20/17. Poured into a goblet.

A: Slightly hazy amber-orange color with a few specks of sediment. Virtually no head formation at all that completely vanished almost immediately.

S: Tart cherries, sour lemon, funky yeast.

T/F: Lemony sourness with some granny smith apple enveloped in an oaky, yeasty funkiness. Finished smooth and super clean though.

O: A refreshing Berliner Weisse to be enjoyed on a sun-drenched patio somewhere.

Amazing example of an underrated and not very well known style. Berliner Weisse often too sour to be thoroughly enjoyed without fruit puree or syrup - this one in my opinion better enjoyed without addition of anything. Well balanced, which is difficult in a real Berliner. Yeast flavor which brings a certain softness, the acidity of the lactobacillus, aromas of stone fruits, apple, peach, rhubarb, citrus, tannins from fresh oak barrels. Refreshing and a true joy. I‘m in love with this beer.

Pours very light amber with minimal head. No lacing. Hazy. Suspended particles.

Aroma is quite sour, yeasty, cloves, banana.

Taste is sour, funky, dank, cloves, wheat, yeast, citrus, brett.

Medium bodied, light carbonation. Dry, sour finish.

Pretty decent sour wheat beer.
