Local bottle store started carrying this brewery, so I figured I may as well give them a shot, starting with this RyePA which is one of my favorite styles.

Pours a murky, golden/bronze color. Lots of sediment in the bottle. Grows a bout a half-inch cream colored head, that is fairly creamy, although recedes rapidly to a thin bubble layer.

Aroma is pretty nice, with a juicy fruity hop character, no so much citrus as tropical fruits, with a slight grassiness overall. I don't really get much rye on the nose, mostly a semi-sweet graininess with the overall fruity hop character.

Well I certainly get the rye in the flavor profile, adding a relatively strong, sweet grainy flavor. The hops seem less flavorful than I was hoping for, the juicy, tropical fruit hop aromatics do not carry through into the flavor, rather just a mild spoiled fruit flavor. The bitterness isn't real intense, but it has a medicinal, aspirin like quality to it, which is pretty unpleasant. The rye leaves an overall sweet grainy flavor in the finish, which combined with the powdery, aspirin bitterness, is pretty unpalatable.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a pretty high amount of carbonation. The beer is fairly drinkable, well balanced, but lacking a bit in hop flavor and the rye seems to be a little much giving the beer an overall sweet graininess, that I for one, am not a big fan of.

Pours a cloudy pale amber with a foamy cream head. Aroma is of rye. Taste is rye. Tiny hints of blackberry. Sweet malts peak through. Relatively dry. Medium bodied and medium carbonation. Overall this was ok.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a hazy golden-orange amber color with a big billowy white head. The head fades very slowly over time to leave tons of foamy lacing on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the brew strongest of a grapefruit and yeasty bready smell. Along with these aromas comes smells of coriander and some grass and a little bit of a black pepper

Taste – The taste begins with a rather bready flavor mixed with a little bit of a rye bread taste. There is a lighter spice flavor of coriander up front and a lighter yeasty taste, with both of these growing stronger as the taste moves forward. There is a little bit of a tangerine and caramel flavor at the start, which over time fade, and end up leaving a very dry taste on the tongue. With some other hop flavors of a hay and pine nature coming to the tongue at the end, one is left with a dry and decently dank hopped rye flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the slightly thinner side for a 6 % rye IPA with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. The lower carbonation is rather nice overall, but a little thicker of a body may have been slightly better for the style overall.

Overall- A rather nice rye IPA overall. It had a decent blend of dank hop blended with a grapefruit and more malty base.

From BeerAdvocate Magazine #90 (July 2014):

Bitter, Rye, Husky, Pith

While American brewers have bastardized the dead IPA style for years hoppy rye ales are very much an American style. What we have here is an very brash version of that, very rough around the edges. Hop bitterness and spicy rye dominate throughout. Not half bad.
