22oz bottle purchased at Bottleworks in Seattle.

A - Pours a smooth dark black. Clean. Medium tan head that quickly dies.
S - Light roast, not much else.
T - Tart. Almost like sweet-tarts candy with a touch of dark malts. Interesting to say the least.
M - Medium body, sharp, prickly on the tongue.
O - Not bad. Not sure what it's supposed to be, but not bad. Like a sweet and sour porter, if that makes any sense. Better than the other Epic offerings I've had, but not worth seeking out.

A - dark brown with hints of ruby. A tan head that faded quickly and left spots of lace as I drank.

S - coffee, rye bread and sour cherry. A little dirt as well.

T - nice sweet vanilla and sour cherry. Slight toasty bitter finish, leaving a little chalky finish as well.

M - great carbonation; enough to tickle but not overpower. Medium body, but super oily.

O - reminds me or NG old English porter in a good way. If he was going for an old world porter, this hits pretty close. Would've liked a little more roast, but very drinkable. Would love to have it again.

Brewed with 85 percent barley and 15 percent corn and soured with lacto culture, this beer was interesting to say the least.

I should say that I'm a huge fan of Epic Ales; Solar Trans Amplifier (spiced with ginger and chamomile) and Terra Saurus (porter with shiitake mushrooms) are two experiments that resulted in fantastic beers.

La Mesa Negra poured a deep cola brown into a tulip with just a thin slick of head. Aroma of pepper, corn, and slight sour cherry.

Lowish carbonation and a somewhat thin, syrupy mouthfeel. The flavor combination was perhaps the oddest I've experienced in a beer -- sour/burnt coffee malt, tart apple, corn-like sweetness, and tons of sour cherry on the finish.

Much as I wanted to like this one, I just couldn't finish the bottle. The flavors seemed to clash rather than integrate, and not in a good way. I hope Epic Ales continues to push the envelope with its brews, but when you experiment this much, you won't be able to please everyone every time.
