Approached with trepidation, but it's tangy rather than vinegary. Thin and sharp with some light body. Starts with some coarse bubbles, but it's not much of a head. Moderate carbonation in the mouth to start, but it flattens out considerably.

There is a distinctive taste I can't quite put words to. Something mushroomy and a little meaty. Faint caraway and maybe a filbert hint. Some dry cider taste for the finish. No perceptible hop flavors.

Overall, this is one of the better Berlinerweiss brews I've had. I wish it were a little sudsier. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Bottleworks in Seattle.

From the bottle: "brewed with malted barley, hops, water and yeast. It is first soured in the mash process to create a super tart, festive and refreshing brew."

Upon opening about four ounces went down the drain - lively indeed. Once poured, a turbid corny concoction with a etched surface of whites. Smells funky with bits of lactic acid. Has a distinctively yogurt smell with some funky barn character. Flavor is metallic, acetic and lactic. Lot's of lemon juice, some hints of grain and plenty of manure. Interesting brew. MEdium on full bodied with lighter carb now that it's calmed. Good taster, would drink again. Would like to see how the bugs interact with another year on it.

My notes are a little messy, so I'm not sure if this is a Gose or perhaps a Berliner Weisse, please correct the style as needed.

Served in 10oz goblet. Poured a cloudy yellow with just a thin cap of white head that quickly dissipated. The aroma featured a nice, earthy grain scent supporting a gentle tartness and a hint of ocean (that mix of salt, air and water).

The taste matched the aromas closely, the salt tingled upfront and clung on the finish, and those nice grains carried the middle. The body was nice light and crisp. Drinkability will depend on your taste for tartness, I would have a couple of these. Overall, a very nice brew, regardless of style. Worth trying if you see it in the Seattle area.
