Passing on through to Pismo Beach, I decided to pitch the idea of stopping at Firestone's Taproom to my friends. After passing up the exit and having to backtrack about 3 miles, we finally reached the place at 7pm on a Saturday night. The first thing you can tell when parking is that this place is packed. The parking lot isn't very big to begin with, but cars are parking in huge lines along the street outside the place. When you walk in, there are about 8 or 9 tables in the bar area, probably able to seat about 40-45 total. Luckily there was one table open when we got there. There is no table service in the bar area but the bartenders will try to get out to you as fast as they can. If they are busy you are better off going up to the bar to order. The atmosphere is very rural, a large majority seemed like regulars who knew the staff's name. We each ordered a sampler ($5), which comes with the Lager, Pale Ale, Double Barrel, and Reserve. You also get a free pint glass that is given to you when you leave if you order a sampler. As you are drinking you can also go pick up bowls of pretzels from the bar, and eat them with some of the really good Firestone Mustard they have too. After we had the samplers I went with the Nectar IPA which was outstanding. There are 8 taps I think in total- 5 of the Firestone taps (b/c you can get Double Barrel filtered or unfiltered), and then 3 or so of the Nectar Ale beers that are owned and brewed by Firestone. We left after a couple pints to get back on the road to our destination.

Monday morning when leaving Pismo Beach and heading back down south we decided to stop at the Taproom again for lunch. The service in the bar area was pretty good, though only about half the tables were filled. On the lunch menu you can find hot dogs, hamburgers, chili, salad, and a special for the day, which was a Kobe beef hot dog this day. The hot dogs are pretty big I might add, and everything is served with shoestring fries.

Great find for us overall. This will be a regular stop on future trips to the central coast.

Unique place with a slew of options for how to approach their beer (patio, high-tops, bar, sit-down restaurant, and then Barrelworks in a separate room). We ate before heading to the latter for a liquid dessert of BA goodness.

Like others have said, the staff can certainly be angsty and a bit forthcoming with you. Regardless, our server was friendly, knowledgable, loved their beer, and gave us relatively quick service.

The food is expensive but man is it delicious. My wife had the 805 pizza (vegetarian) which was awesome, and the Wookee Jack Brisket sandwich was incredible.

My only complaint is that most of the seasonals were not on tap, and they had no stouts or Wookee Jack on tap either. Great stop for sure!

This spot is in the same building as Barrelworks, but this is geared towards their food and "normal" beer operations. They usually have all of the widely available FW beers on tap with an occasional one-off or special release. There is bar seating available, but most of the space is tables for eating. Service has always been pretty good, but it can get busy when there are special events.

I would give this a 4.5 -4.75. FW has always impressed me as a well run outfit, having attended several new bottle releases over the past year. I'm not a local boy, so no bias in that regards, they just go bigger and better than most. Plenty of parking on premises, or on the street. Nice check in area and bar area whilst waiting. two separate seated areas, although I've never sat in the area left of the bar/entrance. This area seems more casual than the larger seated area to the right and behind the check-in desk. Small but ample merchandise area incl reg beer offerings. The tasting room has their rarer beer stock. Tasting room is actually divided into two parts, depending on the functions that may be running. High ceiling for affect in the larger restaurant area. The atmosphere in general is always great, load and busy during main meal times. Knowledgeable staff, esp when it comes to the beer, as you would expect. Professional and polite staff. Bathrooms are clean and functional. I like the tasting room here better than stone, just for the privacy, but this does lack outdoor dining options, and given the great weather in the area, not sure why that may be. Classy place overall, in a well-healed area. a must visit if in the area. Hope this helps. Cheers.
