Otto's Shrunken Head is a dive bar/tiki lounge located in the north Alphabet City area of the East Village. I was initially drawn to Otto's because I love 1950s tiki themes. Otto's does provide a selection of fruity tiki drinks that are served in tiki mugs (which you can buy or return).

While I was not blown away by my rum infused drink, I am always a big fan a cheaply priced beer. Otto's answers the call in that regard. Cheap PBRs are always a plus. The service is friendly and they feature live music. Otto's is worth a visit.

I used to live across the street from Otto's Shrunken Head bar and go here constantly, and it was always entertaining. The crowd and bartenders are always eclectic and the music is always cool; except for the weekend nights that they need a bouncer the place is perfect for chilling out.

Most drinks and beers are cheap by NYC standards, and I either ordered Sierra Nevada Pale or a PBR as those were always cold, fresh and in the case of the PBR's, cheap.

The bartenders are great during the week and buy back rounds and take care of the regulars, which I was back then. My crew used to love playing Big Buck Hunter or catching the bands in the back, which were always a treat since they ranged from very polished to pure noise.

This is not a "beer bar" like Ginger Man or the Hop Devil Grill (which is very close), but it's an awesome place to hang out and get wasted.

NOT A BEER BAR, but really, really cool.

There's not a whole lot going on in the "upper" East Village just below Stuyvesant, but this is one of the linchpins.

They've got a lot of great live music in a mix of Rockabilly, Punk, Surf, and straightforward Rock - as well as DJ's (who are good or bad depending on what you like and what they're spinning).

The decor is cool; but there's no food - you'll have to bring it or order in (which is fine with them). Service is quick.

Overall it's a very cool stop, at least for a pint or two if you can't stay for a few tasty tunes. Worth checking out.
