Tried among a line up of Cycles, including Nooner 10, &+, Pallet 1 and Pallet 2. Overall, Cycle hype is largely deserved.

Hey guys, this is a good beer. Nice interplay of barrel, cinnamon and chilies. If you've had Huna, you know the drill. The only ding is a little excess heat that seems to be a byproduct of cinnamon, chilies and alcohol. 3rd favorite.

On tap at Peg's. Served in a snifter.

Appearance - Black with a big khaki head. Great retention. Thick collar.

Smell - Peppers and rum. A little spicy. Chocolate.

Taste - Chocolate and cola. Strong spiciness, not only from peppers but also from cinnamon. Rum finish.

Mouthfeel - Heavy spicy and boozy. Medium carbonation. Drinks well though.

Overall - Very enjoyable. Intense, but good.

had this on draft Dec/2014. Full 12oz snifter -poured pitch black with a quarter inch khaki/brown head. Aroma of rum barrel sweetness mixed with cinnamon. Taste was right there with it. Just enough barrel to keep the cinnamon in check. Thick luscious mouth-feel that cycle has perfected. Overall it was excellent. My top beer of 2014.

had this one in Dec '14 when they sent off Rarer DOS. One of the best beers I've ever had. Super thick like most of Cycle's stouts. The smell had it all, rum, chocolate, vanilla, coffee - the kitchen sink. the taste followed and slowly changed and developed as it warmed. I've had many from Cycle and other breweries since and it's still my favorite.

Choosing not to bottle this for Nooner 8 instead of RareR w/Hazelnuts must have been like choosing which child is your favorite. If this beer never sees a future beyond what's left in the kegs at the brewery then beer drinkers everywhere will have lost a true gem.

Edit: 3/12/15 -- Released in bottles today as Cycle's "Thursday" beer. Still tastes as awesome as it did in December.

If it gets any better than this, we need a new system.

Black as moonless night with the darkest brown head I've ever come across. Retention is much better than expected for the style before it settles to a wisp of a film.
Smell has so much going for it, is so complex, trying to pick out the details is a waste of time were it not for the passage of time and the increase in temperature that accompanies it. Rich, malty, some dark, chocolate, fermented fruits, a whiff of indeterminate spice. Balance is perfect.
Taste is exactly what you expect from the nose's promise. Rich, malt, chocolate, dark fruit, hint of spice, rum. This brew, this style, really needs a good 30 minutes to warm before the drinking begins to allow all the flavors to awaken.
Phenomenally rich and chewy, smooth like Don Juan, warming throughout. Sad that I haven't had a D.O.S. before, glad that I finally got one. If you get a chance you owe it to yourself.

Reviewed from notes. Had on tap at the Cycle One-Year Anniversary event. Served in a Cycle snifter.

A: Pours an extremely dark brown, and opaque. Has a half-finger of tan head with good retention and low visible carbonation.

S: Wonderfully complex - chilis, cinnamon, sweet rum, roasted malts and accompanying sweetness, vanilla. Amazing nose - could keep smelling this one for a long while.

T: A rum hit up front, barrel oak, chilis, cinnamon, vanilla and cacao. BIg malty backbone throughout. Chili flavor (without excessive heat) and some rum booze on the exhale.

M: Heavy, thick-bodied but not quite as viscous as Hunahpu. Modest alcohol content for a barrel-aged stout, and carbonation on the low side adds to the velvety texture.

O: This was flat-out really, really good. Truly one of the best beers I've had in a long time. I hope this makes several repeat appearances.
