Black color with tan head.

Rye barrel flavors with bourbon notes. Very oaky. Chocolate with roast.

Smooth and creamy. Tasted like rare dos but rye BA.

Got this one from 7clutch a while back. Thanks for the love, man!

From a bomber into a snifter

APPEARANCE: Opaque black pour yields a three finger, medium looking, slightly cream, crackly tan head with very good retention. Jet black body with no carbonation evident. Head starts to pothole and become very foamy as it slowly recedes down to a full, foamy cap. Faint wisp remains leaving some dots of lacing down the glass.

SMELL: Oaky, with rye whisky and alcohol on the nose. Woody, boozy and some notes of chocolate and vanilla underneath. A bit of a perfume character from the spirit.

TASTE: Oak, rye and whisky flavors up front. Woody through the middle with some more alcohol at the swallow, then a bolder and lingering finish of rye, oak, some vanilla and milk chocolate notes, a hint of caramel and toffee, and some booze. A little more piercing in the barrel department, and slightly perfume-like as well.

PALATE: Medium body and medium levels of carbonation. Slightly creamy on the palate, a little fizzy perhaps, goes down fine and finishes rather sticky. Some alcohol lingers.

OVERALL: Cycle usually rocks it out of the park, but this is more like a bloop single with two outs and nobody on. This was okay, but not what the others stouts in their arsenal have been. The barrel was a little too woody and perfume-like for my tastes, and the feel a touch fizzier than I’m used to from these guys. Not a bad brew, just not up to Cycle’s unbelievably lofty standards. Still fine overall and worth checking out, but I would personally take one of their many other world class brews over this one. Thanks again 7Clutch. Always love these guys.

This was listed as "BA Stout" and was apparently a blend of the various rum and whiskey stouts from the week's releases. On tap at Peg's served in a snifter.

Appearance - Black with a medium khaki head. Wisps and a medium collar.

Smell - Distinct liquor aromas of whiskey and rum. Dark chocolate. Some sweetness.

Taste - Whisky flavor up fronts. Dark chocolate and roasted malts. Sharp oak taste. Gets sweeter in the back and then bitter chocolate and rum take over.

Mouthfeel - Heavy. It seems to be a blend of DOS and Batch 500 stouts, so it's not as sweet as DOS and not as burnt and roasty as 500.

Overall - Very discrete barrel characteristics. It makes it interesting, but maybe not as good as either one individually.

thanks mike! enjoyed from a pegs mini. black as night. nose is a blend of chocolate bourbon and rum or sangria. taste is a little messy with too much going on. really complex but feels like it clashes a bit. pretty good, has that quality stout base. sangria stout.

Thanks to drewone for sharing this one at Wowcoolman's tasting.

Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa powder, vanilla, marshmallow, and coconut aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa powder, chocolate syrup, vanilla, marshmallow, bourbon, and wood flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roast and wood bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with nice vanilla and marshmallow aromas and flavors.

Serving type: bottle.

The beer pours a deep black color with a thin tan head that guards the perimeter and only makes way for oily, tan legs. The nose is aromatic and boasts both the lactose and barrel at the same time, while the booze creeps in slowly. It tastes like you'd expect a cycle BA stout to taste - slightly metallic and acidic, decadent, sweet, and milky in the finish. I'd compare this alongside a bottle from the DOS series. The mouthfeel is full bodied and rich, lowly carbonated has a powerful sweetness that matches the staggering booze in the finish. This is a slow sipping beer, one to serve a bit on the warm side to appreciate fully. As always with cycle, I'm impressed by the stout and look forward to their next endeavor.
