L: pours black, doesn't look ultra thick, could see some light. A dark brown head that fades fast
S: some bourbon sweetness, more of a molasses than chocolate, and no maple. The smell is good, but it isn't jumping out of the glass
T: there is the maple! A bit of subtle bourbon though. The maple sweetness does help counteract the molasses.
F: medium to thick thickness. Creamy feel but doesn't cost well

Got this one from desp 59 a while back. Cheers for the trade!

From a bomber into a snifter
2016 Edition
Maple Bourbon barrel imperial stout (Maple DOS)

APPEARANCE: Pours out clear black and yields a 2+ finger, medium-thicker looking dark tan head with great retention. Creamier looking and not fizzy at all. Black body with no carbo evident. Head slowly recedes to a full cap and leaves sheets of lacing on the glass. A good wisp remains leaving solid lacing down the glass. Good looking stuff.

SMELL: Medium strength nose of bourbon, oak, vanilla, sweet, creamy milk chocolate, toffee, butterscotch, and faint maple aromas as well. Lots of barrel and candy going on here.

TASTE: More maple in the flavor up front, with notes of toffee, butterscotch and bourbon as well. Some oak and wood at the swallow with a medium but lingering finish of milk chocolate, sweet vanilla cream, oak, toffee and butterscotch, some maple flavors and alcohol. Sweet and boozy, with a nice hint of maple syrup in there as well.

PALATE: Medium-fuller body and medium carbonation. Creamy and enough weight on the palate, goes down with a bit of a scratch and burn, finishing a touch mouth-coating. A bit of heat lingers.

OVERALL: Another excellent Cycle imperial stout. The maple bourbon barrels give it a different character than using pure maple syrup in the brew, as the maple comes off very much in the background and as part of the barrel presence as a whole. Both approaches work in the end, and this is a very nice example of this particular method. It’s also well engineered, with a very nice look and a solid feel to it. Thanks again for this one desp59. These guys do great stout beers and this is another stellar example. Cheers!

Looks dark. Little head. Aroma is strong bourbon, but not necessarily hot. But maybe like cheap bourbon. Then the taste...tangy, dark bakers chocolate, booze. Not impressive. The sour flavor isn't my bag. Thin mouthfeel, maybe a shade thinner than BCBS. No maple. Didn't really enjoy this one.

Great beer, nice mouthfeel and a solid stout. Not as much maple as I would have thought. Very solid beer, just would like a little more maple taste to it.

No maple whatsoever. Good BA stout with a solid mouthfeel but this just doesn't match up with the name Maple DOS. It is a good stout though but just no maple

Pours a thick dark beer with very little carbonation. Maple, Maple, Maple. Strong coffee smell up front wit the bitter coffee taste on the front and followed by the sweet maple taste on the back end. Marvelous beer.

My first Cycle "day of the week" bottle and it was a doozy! The maple was a bit subtle, but no more so than CBS. Bourbon was present but not overwhelming. I loved it - hope to be trying the other days soon!

Tan head.

Dark brown/black color.

The maple doesn't show a lot. The whiskey is there though. Nice bourbon notes. Then it is all dos. Chocolate and sweetness. Light roasted malts.

Full bodied. Nice feel.

Solid dos variant. Nothing crazy.

650 mL bottle. Black body. Small khaki head. Smells sugary. Maple. Brown sugar. A bit nutty and some chocolate. Taste is incredibly sweet. Lots of maple. Chocolate. Light roast. Booze. Heavy. This one is just way too sweet for me.

"Maple Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout (Maple DOS). We let the maple syrup barrels do their thing."

Appearance - I feel like I can write this section in my sleep now after four beers that look nearly identical. Much like the early weekdays, this is a black-as-night beer. This one probably has the smallest head, as even a vigorous pour yields barely any foam.

Aroma - The nose is full of barrel presence right out of the gate which is a welcome aroma after Tuesday and Wednesday had barely any. There's a nice bittersweet chocolate note and a touch of maple. This reminds me of Monday in that is not very strong.

Taste - The taste is not what I expected at all. It's actually a fairly mild flavor profile; there isn't one distinct note that screams out but rather everything blends together nicely. Unlike Monday, the maple is actually present here, and alongside the bourbon barrel it is a very enjoyable taste. A subtle roastiness prevents it from becoming too sweet, couple with a mild coffee and cocoa powder bitterness.

Mouthfeel - The mouthfeel is medium-bodied with low carbonation. Continuing the disappointment of the past beers, I'd like this to be a bit beefier to really allow the flavors to develop on the palate.

Closing Arguments - The mouthfeel is medium-bodied with low carbonation. Continuing the disappointment of the past beers, I'd like this to be a bit beefier to really allow the flavors to develop on the palate.

Maple is an integrated flavor that shows a bit more on the finish. The sweetness is well balanced. The bourbon plays a star role as well. Well rounded flavorful stout.

This is a decent stout from Cycle. It tastes similar to Rare Dos but lacks the dark fruits and complexity that makes Rare Dos so good. The maple barrels bring forth a bit of sweetness but not too much. I found it to be enjoyable but won't seek it out again.

Liquified brownies. The maple is there once it warms. This is a great stout for what it is. The maple is subtle and not sweet like Canadian breakfast stout, or others in the same realm.

The first thing I notice is the familiar taste of Rare Dos - chocolate fudge, toffee, and a hint of cola delivered in a smooth, drinkable medium bodied mouth feel. I usually prefer Cycle's bourbon barrel aged stouts because it brings out that toffee flavor more along with vanilla and caramel, a perfect match with the chocolate fudge base. I also get a good bit of toasted coconut and char from the barrel. If I understand correctly, there's no maple added here which means the maple imparted by the barrel is subtle, but what's there is pure maple flavor, not cloying sweet syrup. In fact, this isn't very sweet at all and has a pretty strong roast flavor. This is a very nice take on an excellent barrel aged stout, but it doesn't add enough in my mind to merit a higher rating.
