Black color with mocha head. Aroma has roasted malts, some dark fruits and slightly smoked wood notes. Taste has whiskey, deep roasted notes and burnt sugar on the finish and bourbon aftertaste. Medium body and carbonation. Really nice flavors with good drinkability.

Deep brown to black with maybe a half inch of head and nice lacing on a sip.

Nose is whiskey, chocolate, sugar, and barrel.

Taste is oak and whiskey mixed with chocolate and sugar, minor coffee, and minor molasses.

Mouthful is heavy and coating. Carbonation is low, real low, - it's flat. Finish is semi sweet.

This beer would rock but it was flat. No idea why. There was head but there was no fizz. I think the flavors would have really popped if this bottle hadn't went to shit. All in all, I rate this highly minus the body.

Got this one from 7Clutch a while back. Cheers!

From a bomber into a snifter

APPEARANCE: Pours a muddy, opaque black and yields a 2+ finger, medium looking, fizzy, mocha or dark tan head with very good retention. Black body with no carbonation evident. Head is rather noisy on this one, eventually crackling down to a full creamy thick cap but leaves no lacing. A slight ring remains for a while but looks mostly flat by the end. No real lacing either.

SMELL: Whisky, oak, sweet cream, vanilla and milk chocolate on the nose. Very bold and enticing. Coconut with some pure chocolate and fudge notes emerge as it sits as well. This is sublime. Bold and balanced, and very decadent, just like other straight up BA Rare DOS incarnations. Perhaps a touch more forthcoming for top scores, but it’s still great.

TASTE: Oak, whisky, sweet cream and vanilla up front. More barrel notes at the swallow with milk chocolate notes as well, then a bold and persistent finish of whisky, oak, sweet vanilla cream, bitter pure chocolate, fudge brownies and some bitter coffee notes as well. Lots of barrel and decadent fudge and sweet chocolate and cream flavors. This is very much in line with the other bottlings of Rare DOS but isn’t quite as forthcoming and mind-blowing with the slightly flatter feel. Still, this is excellent stuff.

PALATE: Full body and lower levels of carbonation. Weighty enough, silky slick on the palate, goes down smooth with no real burn and finishes sticky. Very little heat lingers on the palate. Silky and smooth. I definitely appreciate this type of feel, but it could possibly use a touch more carbonation, as it tends to flatten out by the end of the glass.

OVERALL: This is basically just as good as the other Rare DOS bottlings I’ve had. The only differences here are that the head is definitely fizzier than it should be and the feel is silkier and smoother as opposed to being full and heavy. While it might not be quite as forthcoming as other batches, the nose and flavor profile are basically identical, which is definitely a good thing. In the end, the red, white and blue variants are virtually identical, and delicious at that. This is another outstanding BA stout from Cycle, which at this point, is no surprise at all. Definitely one worth writing home about. Cheers, 7Clutch!

This was really good, chocolate heavy. Way morethan red or blue. The least complex, but maybe most neck-beard enticing than the others. Would like this with something else added like hazelnut or vanilla. These guys know their adjuncts.

Black in color. Tan head.

Aroma in nicer than red dos. The flavor has some lingering bitterness. Maybe bitter chocolate. But other than that, I'd say this is better than red dos. Thick, rich, fudgey. Oaky with a nice bourbon flavor. Full bodied. Really nice beer.
