this stuff is the bees knees. so perfectly mixed sweet and malty and delicious. its lower abv lets you drink these for hours on end and still keep up all night long. one of the best beers I have had.

Picked up this porter from Peg's before we left Tampa.

A: Poured a pitch black color with a slight wispy off-white.

S: Freshly roasted coffee with a bit of milk, but not much. Has a bit of rye cracker in there as well.

T: Coffee buttercream frosting in spades. Sorta has the same quality as Terrapin WNB on the finish. A bit of dark fruit in there as well.

M: Creamy and silky, damn near perfection. A bit of splotchy, buttery lacing.

O: Drinking the last drop of this growler was pure torture. Amazing!

On tap at Peg's Cantina.

Pours thick black. Intense, fresh-ground coffee dominates the aroma. Smells quite nice, like squeezing a bag of coffee grounds.

The intense coffee seeps into the flavor, and it's balanced exquisitely by the lactose and sweet barley, ending perfectly bittersweet.

Not much else to say other than this an A+ coffee porter.

A: Pours dark translucent brown with copper glints. Small off-white head.
S: Smell of freshly ground coffee, roasted malts, caffee latte, prune, grape, complex, rich, wonderful!
T: Taste is dominated by coffee, toasted malts and cream. Dark chocolate comes on a second step. Finishes on molasses, brown sugar, prune. Complex despite the low ABV.
M: Medium bodied, well carbonated, easy drinking.
O: A light but complex and flavorful porter. It gives the impression of drinking an iced caffe lattee with something more. An other Cream and Sugar Please, please!

Had on tap at brewery. Notes from memory:

Ever been to New Orleans and had a Cafe Au Lait? The exact same taste, smell and feel as coffee back home...except this one gets you drunk and I loved it!

This is a solid coffee stout that's smooth and velvety. Packs a solid coffee taste and not overbearing especially when your drinking it during the hot summer months in Florida

Crowley filled 3 days ago, flown back to MA and reviewed fully at time of consumption to phone. Really dig the crowler idea; someone in MA needs to get on that ASAP.

A- Super deep brown body with black notes in the middle. A two finger foamy mocha crown with fair retention. Sheets and webs of lace coat a large portion of the glass.

S- Oh hello coffee. Fresh and intensely smooth coffee borderline dominates the aroma with some roasted, cocoa and toasted grains underneath. The coffee has a medium earthy roast feel.

T- Coffee is strong with this one. As in the aroma the beans are the show with a deep, rich coffee flavor akin to very well brewed Joe. Earthy and bright fruits beyond the medium roast from the coffee. Cocoa powder, toasted brown malts and some lactose sweets.

MF- Silky lactose infused body with that signature stiff but smooth feeling. Medium bodied with high carbonation levels. Finishes with a bit of a roast bitterness from malts and coffee.

Depth of coffee in the aroma and flavor not just dark roast domination. Toasty brown grains, cocoa and the coffee of course with a nice lactose touch. Crowler is awesome by the way, beer perfect after a few days.

On tap at Cycle in St. Pete. Pours dark brown to black with thin tan head. Smell is dark roast coffee and roasted malts. Good mouthfeel, typical to the style. Taste is smooth, delicious coffee, malts and a hint of sweetness. To me, 75% coffee porter and 25% milk stout. Overall I really liked it

Had on tap at Peg's cantina and also brought a growler home.
A: pours a rich black body, dark khaki foam head, carbonation
S: Wow the aroma is incredible, coffee, creamer, and hint of sugar, slight hop aroma in there too.
M: medium at the start and finishing up on the lighter side, carbonation
T: coffee, coffee, cream, very slight sugar, some coke flavor, like a hint of caramel, ending up with some slight bitter hops.
O: fantastic brew, if you like coffee, this is a must try, the coffee and cream similarities are very close to the real thing, +4 stars

Pours a somewhat thin looking dark brown, which appears black in the glass except a noitceable reddish brown hue around the edges and a thin ring of light tan foam around the rim of the glass.

Pungent aroma of fresh brewed coffee and heavily roasted malt. There is a faint caramel like sweetness that lingers, as well as a sweet aroma of fresh cream.

This is brings a punch of fresh coffee, roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, and heavy sweet cream flavors. Tastes very much like an iced coffee with a splash of milk, a pinch of sugar, and a bit of carbonation.

Full-bodied, low-medium carbonation, roasty, creamy, and sweet.

Overall, I can't say enough good things about this beer. I love the simplicity of this beer with just enough creaminess and sugary sweetness notes to balance a delicious coffee base. Drink it for breakfast!

First had: on tap at Peg's, Gulfport, FL

Listed as a sweet porter brewed with chocolate and coffee.

Dark brown-black pour, opaque but lighter around the edges, with a dense finger of off-white head that retained well and left some lacing on the glass. Fairly roasty aroma, smooth coffee, dark malts, and not much else to speak of. Taste was similar...this was a porter, but Peg's gets a nice full body out of their beers, making this almost comparable to a stout. Dark malts, smooth coffee, pretty much no bitterness at all, a nice creaminess provided by the lactose addition, and a good amount of semi-sweet chocolate coming in about mid-palate. Silky full body, coffee was not too strong or overbearing, which was nice. Great beer overall, and quite sessionable at 4.9%ABV.

On tap at Cycle Brewing, in St. Petersburg, FL.

This one pours a fairly dark brown, nearly black, with a small head, and a good amoun of lacing.

Smells like roasty coffee, vanilla, roasted malt, and a little bit of chocolate.

This is pretty low ABV, but a good level of flavor for the low levels of booze. It's got a good level of flavor, a good level of coffee flavor, with some vanilla, roasted malt and a bit of chocolate. It's all balanced nicely and makes for one of the most drinkable coffee porters ever.

This is medium bodied, with a super level of drinkability, and a normal level of carbonation.

This is a super drinkable and nice coffee porter.

On tap at Pegs. Nice pour into my pint glass...deep brown with off white head. Aromas of freshly ground coffee. .I mean fresh.
Nice sweet malty coffee flavor with some nutty malty notes.. but the coffee is just so fresh and tasty. Its super light but full of flavor. Its a nice brew to finish this Mexican burrito at pegs...a perfect desert brew. Its a tad light and thin but overall a great easy drinking coffee brew...which is hard to come by.

There are a few beers that really show what a porter is (and keep it well out of stout territory). This is one of them. Smooth and well bodied, but somewhat light at the same time. Creamy tones are certainly there as is an accent of sweet. Coffee is here, it seems? Very easy to drink and a real pleasant one at that. Another great beer from Cycle.

Holy coffee. Not very thick but its a low abv porter. Can smell coffee immediately after opening. Lacks the bite or burn of a high abv stout, which is a benefit. Would definitely drink more of this.

This beer poured out of the tap with a beautiful creamy head. The smell is phenomenal and the taste does not disappoint. Excellent mouthfeel, it is certainly a bit sweet but what do you expect from this beer. A must try in my book

Thanks Cam for sharing this 32oz Crowler. Can growler! What will they think of next? Reviewed from notes.

A - Dark brown-leaning-towards-black pour. A small beige head forms, retains as a mostly full cap, bits of lace left.

S - Straight up fresh quality coffee, kinda grounds-y but very flavorful, lactose, pastries, slightly dessert-y.

T - A little more sweetness here and lots of lactose coming through. Still big on the coffee, mostly good coffee and lactose to be honest, slight roast and chocolate there as well.

M - Good body, somewhat high carbonation, lots of flavor for the ABV, nicely light.

O - Kind of a coffee lactose bomb, but pretty awesome as such, the coffee used here is great and complex. Nice to have this in a low ABV porter.

Poured on tap at the brewpub, the beer is a dark brown-mahogany coloring, with a foamy, filmy, clingy, light tan head. Aromas of roasted coffee, subtle bittersweet chocolate, and hints of char. Flavors are heavily roasted coffee, bitter and rich, with a creamy sweet overlay. Dry, light bodied, with a roasted and chocolate sweet aftertaste. Dry, smooth finish, with a subtle bittersweet linger. Solid beer.

Overall a light bodied coffee porter that is light on the dark roasted coffee flavor with a smoother milk chocolate flavor. Easy drinking with a nice blend of sweetness and lightly roasted malt. Had this as a chaser while drinking the BA coffee stouts so it was quite the difference.

Poured into a Funky Buddha Brewery snifter. Crowler filled 2-9-15.

A- Pours a 99% opaque color with a 1/2 inch dark tan head that retains well before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a mostly full sheet of frothy surface foam. Resilient lacing leaves a thick ring behind.

S- Nice blast of dark roast coffee with a slight sweetness on the back end. Very pleasant overall.

T- Good semi-sweet coffee flavor with a roasty finish. Hints of vanilla but there's mostly a medium-roast coffee flavor that's prevalent. Moderate bitterness.

M- My only complaint is it's a little thin in body and not very creamy but it is a porter, not a stout, so I won't get too nitpicky. Medium-low carbonation is pretty on point though.

O- I guess you could say this is a well-balanced and sessionable coffee porter with not as heavy of a coffee punch as other coffee beers...but that intensity is why I like coffee beers. Very good, but not quite great.

Reviewed from notes. Had on-tap at The Independent. Served in a pint glass.

A: Dark brown, not quite opaque, with nearly a finger's worth of tan head. Low visible carbonation.

S: Burnt coffee, lactose creaminess and some sweet dark malts. But my overall impression is that of black bitter coffee - but not in an unappetizing way.

T: Follows the nose. Roasted coffee malt, creamy lactose, some sweetness from the malt to balance. I think there's a small amount of hop bitterness near the swallow, but it might be bitterness from the coffee. Roasted malt bitterness in the hang.

M: Thin body for a porter, but seems rich at the same time. Low alcohol presence, low to medium carbonation.

O: If you don't like some big coffee flavors I would suggest skipping it altogether. It's not exactly a complex beer. But, I drink my coffee black every morning (irony in relation to the beer's name notwithstanding), and quite enjoyed it.

Pours a very dark brown with a dark tan, two finger head. Leaves lots of lacing. Very good coffee smell. Nice lighter coffee taste with malt and vanilla undertones. Maybe a slight hop taste. A thinner mouthfeel, but lots of taste. Decent porter.

Appearance is a dark brown color with a half finger brown head.
Aroma is espresso, roasted coffee, roasted malts.
Taste follows the nose but in a lighter way.
Mouthfeel is pretty thin. No real lingering coffee flavors.
This is a solid beer and I love coffee beers.
Glad I got to try it.

A cream sugar porter. Big lactose, very good creaminess and milk. Black and lacey. Above average mouthfeel. Unique tasting, a sipper and a little sour in the finish. I think more chocolate presence would help. Most interesting on tap tonight at Peg's.
