Arrives exceedingly dark brown, nigh-on black, more porter in appearance than brown ale. Light might get into it but it it doesn't come back out. A small, tan head, 1/2", and creamy sits atop this invitingly dark liquid.
Smell is malt, cardboard, vanilla and caramel. Balance is good but mild.
Taste is toasted malt, caramel, light cardboard. Again, well balanced but mildly presented and very approachable.
Smooth, slightly drying with a mildly ashy aftertaste. Light coating of the palate but not distracting.

Had a pint of this at the brewpub and brought a growler home to enjoy several hundred miles away. Cheers!

Served in a 3 Stars Brewing glass.

A: Poured pretty dark. Darker than most browns even. Brown-red color with an off-white head that clung to the glass and then some.

S: So much velvet in their beers. This one is not brown sugar heavy at all. It had a decent hop component with sort of a buttery, leather-like disposition.

T: Smooth as silk and infinitely drinkable. Seriously, this is quite possibly the most drinkable brown I've ever tasted. Brown butter, a hint of sugar, and a nice bitter slap.

M: The carbonation was perfect, along with the lacing. This was some seriously drinkable shit!

O: It was a different experience trying this one in pint form at the brewery. I was totally in awe of the brewery at that point (and I guess I still am). Sitting down on my couch enjoying this one in my pajamas was just the Peg's experience I needed. Great beer!
