Non discreet 500ml growler bottle with a small white label that has Cycle Brewing's symbol, "Nooner" in a black box, and the words "contains alcohol." That's it! How do I know that it's the Batch 3 version? I know fellow BA mixed_master7 that picked it up when they released it at Peg's. That's my only proof.

I had no other choice then to pour this beer into my Peg's/Cycle Brewing Snifter. Well, it looks like a whiskey barrel aged Stout. It poured the usual solid midnight black color with a small 1/4 of an inch dark mocha head of foam. This mocha head of foam had acceptable retention that left behind a tiny string of rings and a few sticky spots of lace around the glass.

When the cap was popped, a strong aroma of soy sauce came pouring out. Yeah, I got a bottle of soy sauce in the fridge, but there's no way that smell could transfer over to the beer. When the beer settled in the glass, the soy sauce aroma subsided. What was there now was a sweet whiskey roasted like aroma. Kicking off the aroma was the sweet scent of brown sugar, vanilla, and caramel. Quickly following the sweet scent was the whiskey and a touch of charred oak. This was a nice not over powering whiskey aroma. Directly behind the whiskey was the roasted malt, chocolate, a whiff of coffee, and a little wheat bread at the finish line. A very nice sweet aroma. I'll take the sweetness over soy sauce any day.

I thought the sweet aroma was going to show me what the taste was going to be like. Nope, that wasn't the case with this beer. While the sweetness controlled the aroma, it was the whiskey and charred oak that controlled the taste. Kicking off the taste was the roasted malt, a splash of roasted coffee, chocolate, and wheat bread. It was after the the taste of the wheat bread when the taste went whiskey and charred oak on me. It wasn't an overwhelming whiskey taste. Just enough to let you know that it was there and here to stay.

This was a full bodied beer with low carbonation and a smooth not boozy roasted/whiskey based aftertaste. There was an aftertaste that I just couldn't place my finger on. It was a vanilla based taste, but other than that, I just couldn't figure what it was.

Big thanks to mix_master7 for hooking me up with this barrel aged sweetie. I'm glad this bottle wasn't infected. This came out when Cycle was having infection issues with their growlers of Rare DOS. Sweet aroma with a nice whiskey flavor. It was a well done barrel aged Stout, but I would still prefer the regular Rare DOS over this.

An exceptional whiskey barrel-aged stout in nearly every way. Thick, black, heavy, and coating in appearance with a dominating chocolate and whiskey combination in the aroma. A little bit of wood and peat as well. The flavors translate nicely as well along with a rich, coating, luxurious mouthfeel experience. Decadent and delicious.

500 mL growler poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Inky black. Decent mocha head. Medium collar.

Smell - Rich chocolate. Whiskey. A little peaty. Boozy. Whiskey dominates the nose.

Taste - Whiskey is less dominant. Rich dark chocolate. Scotch-like whiskey. Oaky. Slightly sharp finish from the whiskey.

Mouthfeel - Thick. Medium low carbonation. Boozy.

Overall - Pretty good, though I prefer the bourbon barrel to this. Not infected though!
