Reviewed from notes. Had on-tap at the Cycle Brewing tasting room. Served in a snifter glass.

A: Pours an opaque very dark brown, with no visible carbonation and a finger height of tan head.

S: Sweet, boozy and big barrel character. Vanilla, and some dark fruit and cacao.

T: Follows the nose. Roasted malt sweetness, oak, vanilla, boozy whiskey, a touch of dark sticky fruits and cacao - almost a chocolate covered raisin flavor - and then more alcohol. There's a booze character on the exhale almost like taking a shot. Still, it doesn't seem overly hot for what it is stylistically.

M: Heavy body, a sticky mouthfeel, big alcohol but not overdone, and low carbonation sensation.

O: This is very enjoyable. It's not an absolute favorite style of mine, but very good. Recommended.

500 mL growler poured into a snifter. Graciously shared by Doug.

Appearance - Brown body with some reddish flecks. Nice off white head. Thick collar and lots of chunks.

Smell - Whiskey. Not like bourbon. Spicier and nuttier. Peatier too. Caramel and nutty malts.

Taste - Sharp whiskey flavor. Again, it's got a spicy flavor. Caramel malt. Very nutty. I'm amazed it doesn't have nuts added to it, really. Some chocolate, but it's got more of an emphasis on nutty brown malts.

Mouthfeel - Medium heavy. No carbonation issues. A little boozy.

Overall - This barrel is great. The beer is a little masked, but that doesn't bother me so much.
