Stillwater Artisanal Ales
Maryland, United States

Notes / Commercial Description:
Canned beer has made a serious return in the craft brewing world. Prior to this resurgence, the only beer found in cans were industrial lagers. So as a nod in both directions we present an elegantly crisp and hoppy new world lager. The light and refreshing pilsner malt body delivers an abundance of floral, spice, and grass driven hop flavors and aroma. Perfect for those luxurious cruises through the Caribbean.

As the craft beer community is quick to celebrate high flavor, complexity, culinary art, excitement and surprise; its quite easy to forget the that the lightest, crispest and cleanest of all these style still control the overall beer market- a cognesent fact that Stillwater brewers are happy to explore...

Like dry champagne or sparkling french cider, Yacht pours with the palest of straw color- a perfect backdrop to display its racing streams of carbonation. Cottony and spritzy, the beer's foam sparkles as its volatile oils release upon impact. Lemon, apple and grain deliver a surprisingly bold display to the nose even with the strong carbonation providing a slight tingle as well.

Its strong effervescence lifts what malt and grain medley presents and is in constant favor of the beer's redeeming refreshment than of taste. Every pop of bubbles enliven the fruit esters and floral hops. Something of honeysuckle leans toward apple and lemon, and is given extra pep with soft sulfur and a peppery bite. Lemongrass closes its taste while the malt retreats and the flavor of cereal grain remain on the finish.

Truly light throughout, its effervescence amplifies the beer's lightness while providing a strong carbonic bite. That joined with grassy and peppery hop bitterness throws the balance toward the biting and slightly astringent side as there is little support for those short complexities as the beer closes. Its quick aftertaste is of raw cereal and straw.

Yacht looks like it'll be smooth sailing. Bright, light and resplendent, this yellow and minimally hazed beer appears just the thing for today's hot sun and sticky humidity. Bubbles were a little excited at first but have since settled down. Like its can design, this looks relatively simple but is not without character.

Smell that? Take a real good sniff, especially you newer craft beer drinkers. That is what hoppy beers used to smell like before the days of scalding, scathingly bitter American IPAs and the like. This more airy, grassy, floral bouquet is like taking a drive in spring time with the windows rolled all the way down.

Light lager or Pilsner? This one blurs the lines (assuming one believes there's such a thing to begin with). Pale, cracker-like malt and delicate white bread tastes largely lay-down and let zestful hops pave the way. Pleasantly pungent flower bud and grassy, leafy green notes comprise most of the flavour.

...and are accountable for the concluding bitterness which, though it doesn't overwhelm this light body, is appreciable nonetheless. Those accustomed to mass-produced lagers will certainly be unfamiliar with this kind and level of crude, earthy, almost spicy (and delicious) herbal quality in their beer.

Yacht isn't just 'perfect for those luxurious cruises through the Caribbean', it's also a quick and affordable way of making every day chores and activities that much richer. Housework? Yacht. Yardwork? Yacht. Barbecue? Yacht. Fishing? Yacht. Family time? Yacht. After a workout? Yacht. You get the idea.

Serving Type: Can
Consumed: 9.17.15

A: 4.5 Pours a slightly hazy yellow-gold. The large, off-white head lasts a couple minutes and leaves some lace on the glass.

S: 4 Aromas are very reminiscent of a good session IPA, with bright, piney and citrusy hops. This fades rather quickly, leaving behind some malt and waxy elements.

T: 3.5 Taste is similar to the nose; you get some pretty nice hops up front, but it fades rather quickly. The finish is a bit flawed in that there is some bitterness that becomes astringent after a while.

M: 4.25 Body and carbonation are very good and make this beer super refreshing.

O: 4 It’s pretty impressive what Stillwater did with a light lager. While this is not a great beer, it simply falls prey to the same issues as session IPAs. That said, it’s still pretty satisfying, interesting, and very drinkable.

Can. Pours a bit hazy but it's bright yellow/straw colored. Thicker head. Completely white. Aroma is of sudsy, almost soapy hops. A bit of honey and cereal. Some lager yeast. Flavor is a mixture of cracker, grain, cereal, grassy and slightly fruity hops with a mild lager flavor. A little bit of diacetyl butter. Body is light, and flavor is kinda zesty. Not as crisp as I'd hoped and I'm not sure why I feel this way. A decent lager. Will kill these four tallboys quickly.

Dry-hopped with Sterling, Tettnang and Hallertauer, this beer is a perfect summer lager, with a huge bouquet of earthy German hops. Mouthfeel damn near perfection. When fresh it tastes very much like green tea, without the tannic quality. Finishes clean and dry.

look; pours a pale golden yellow stray with lots of bubbles. 1/2 inch somewhat foamy head that stays a while and leaves soapy lacing
smell; grapefruit, yeast, grass clippings, hint of lemon snap cookies
taste;crisp grapefruit, hint of malt and pine, barely a hint of honey and lemon
feel; sharp, bubbly, crisp, dry but refreshing
overall; a very refreshing hoppy light lager, hard to get a light dry hopped beer to taste balanced, this one is not perfect but not as far off as some and it has some nice subtle flavors as well.

This one threw me for a loop a bit. Slammer poured into a nonic ten ounce glass.

Doesn't have the clean lager look entirely, but looks pretty tasty either way.

Smell and flavor showcase a curious end of almost tart Belgian and German lager qualities. An interesting and intriguing combination, but I kind of want more lager and less of the tart, almost Brett-like flavor. Just me, maybe.

Light and easy as hell to drink, so there's that going for it. Definitely one you could crush a few of.

Poured from a 16 OZ can into a pint glass.
Aroma- Has a ton of citrus for a smell and is followed by malt, very nice.
Appearance- This is a straw colored beer with a mild case of murkiness and has a medium sized white head.
Taste- Big citrus flavor with a nice malt finish, real flavorful.
Palate- This is a medium bodied beer with moderate carbonation.
Overall- A great summer session beer, really enjoyable.

Pours an effervescent straw color with 3+ fingers of ivory colored head. Great lacing & head retention, doesn't quite drop bright, but a huge deal

S: Perfumy & floral hops

T: Grassy, dryness & some soapiness up front. Some pear & green appleskin as this warms along with grassiness & dryness, some citurssy notes as well. Finishes crisp, plenty of grassy hops, & a touch of green apple

MF: Light/medium body, firm carbonation, pretty good balance

Drinks easy, nothing earth shattering here, but a nice one to knock back a few at a party, ballgame or floating down the river
