This Imperial IPA projects an array of multidimensional hop flavor and aroma. Simcoe offers piney fruit while Centennial delivers a squeeze of lemon atop bright the tangerine citrus of Galaxy, laid upon a field of grassy Sterling.. and then some hippie comes by with a dank bag of Columbus.. This heady combination is backed by an extremely lean malt body thanks to the addition of flaked rice.

Poured from 12oz bottle into a dimpled mug.
Appearance: hazy, murky orange-brown hue with a thin finger of frothy ivory foam. Nice enough, but a little down & dirty.
Smell: very sweet, with tons of dank, citrusy hops. The hops are definitely not held back, but the overall effect is pretty muddled.
Taste: there's actually a lot of dark fruit effect here, with a little bit of mustiness. It reminds me of like a hoppy quadrupel; there's tobacco and dates in with the dank hops and touch of lemony citrus. Very odd. I like it.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a good carbonation and creaminess; quite good for the style. The literature says that there's rice in here to thin it out, but I think it's got plenty of richness.
Overall: this beer is a weirdo. The aroma makes me think "oh, another mediocre DIPA", but the flavor is almost Belgian in its ashy complexity. Interesting stuff!

L: Poured from a bottle to a tulip glass. Had a dark orange color and a cloudy, murky texture. Some floaties. There was an inch of foamy, somewhat long-lasting head. Fair lacing.
S: Quite a big aroma of hops, citrus, malt, pine, and a slightly boozy quality.
T: Tasted of a whole lot of fruit (pineapple, orange, lemon), light malt, a high amount of hops, pine, caramel, and a grassy quality, though it wasn't particularly powerful. An aggressive flavor in the West Coast DIPA style. The advertised rice isn't really noticeable, but that doesn't detract from the quality.
F: A good amount of carbonation with a fairly dry finish. Medium-bodied.
O: This is a solidly made DIPA. It has a big flavor, but is still a drinkable beer.

Poured from the bottle into a Spiegelau IPA glass.
Muddy orange body, a bit cloudy with cascading sediment. A one finger off white colored head makes a presence, and that's about all that sticks around. Kind of looks like homebrew.
Nice aroma. Subtle hop angle of orange and tea leaf like quality. Slight florals a bit kick in almost perfume like with a simple sense of caramel malt like sweetness. A clove like phenol just makes a brief appearance and it gets into pulling almost a woody hop angle. Such a bunch of different hop aromas I am getting off of this, kind of hard to believe. Very nice, but not huge.
Palate gives a nice simple pleasure. Where as the aroma went all out the palate is much simpler. Mid palate gives a good sense of hop orange citrus then the malts take over. A real nice toasty and caramel malt depth, hits of crackling brown turbinado sweet sugars on the finish. Aftertaste has nice simple bitterness, a bit of grapefruit mixing in with more toast crackling and even biscuit hinting malt depth.
A surprising turn of events finds me enjoying the malt angle on this more so than the hops. It's still got the basic IPA thing going but not going to cause any hopheads sheer joy.

Little to no hop aroma or taste. Mostly just bitter and malt biscuit

As my beer guru has taught me beer is best when you are tired and hungry. Just came in from 3 hours of trudging in 34 inches of snow so was exhausted and hungry, grabbed this one and did not look real close, for some reason I thought it was lighter. Anyway, as always he was right. Excellent hazy orange/yellowish color with limited head but strong lacing. Strong aroma with lots of malt, some caramel, plenty of citrus and pine. Caramel malty taste with some bread like a wheat, plenty of citrus again up front with the malt and then some pine in behind that finishes with just a touch of bitter. Full mouthfeel. I enjoyed this very much and rolled through it, of course I was extremely thirsty and hungry.

Bottle from Craft Bier Cellar Westford
Hazy deep yellow with a bubbly white head that lasts forever. Big grassy pine hop notes atop a bed of sweet caramel. Somewhat rustic earthy flavor with entirely too much sweet caramel malt for its own good. Pretty sure this bottle is older. Maybe its better fresh, but right now its too damn sweet.
