Chunky and hazy goldenrod with an eggshell white head of tight foam that lingers long and sits a half inch high. Offputting aroma of onion and chives, punctuated with some mint. Biscuity malt, a little tannic and grainy. Sharp piney hops, a bit one-dimensional. Aggressive bitterness, sharp tingly carbonation with a moderate mouthfeel. Just packaging a beer in a four-pack of 16-ounce cans doesn't make it great.

an interesting beer here, not sure its quite hoppy enough to call an ipa, although the term "neotropic" doesnt seem to mean a whole lot here either. the hops dont taste as new world and southern hemisphere and tropical as i expected them too, and so i was sort of let down by this overall, although the hoppy stuff has never been what these guys do best. i like the lightness of it, not much bitterness here, and i also like that there is some yeast character to it, i would expect nothing less from stillwater. the hops just dont really get to the ipa level, maybe more of a balanced pale, too much late kettle and dry hopping, or rather not enough of the long boil bittering process. they dont even taste all that tropical, some lime and some grass, almost more saaz than anything else, but its tough to say. perhaps this isnt as fresh as it could be, i couldnt read the date on the bottle, and i can see the intended hop profile really working, but also being sort of unstable over time. this was also shipped to me from new york state, so maybe some summer heat got to it before i could on the way. in any event, its an easy drinking pale ale type, good not great in my experience.

edit: this is so much better in the pint can than it was in the bottle. they almost assuredly changed the recipe, that or my bottle wasnt fresh at all, but the beer i drank from the can last night was enormously better than the review here, and it seems more different than the packaging format could account for. its hazy, pale, juicy as can be, dry, well carbonated, just a little bitter, super tropical, and absolutely delicious. i am bumping up a bunch of scores to reflect the can experience.

12 oz bottle, w both BB dating and bottled on dating..nice

Pours clouded darker yellowy amber, moderate eggshell head, leaving a thicker collar ana nice looking tiny bubble film and low scattered lacing.

Lemony, fruited up hop nose.

Dry, citric and tasty. lemons, light pepper, melon and dank hops coming to mind...super dry and hopped up finish

Moe then respectable IPA...well worth a try

Pours a cloudy, gold color. 1/4 inch head of an off-white color. Slight retention and slight lacing. Smells of strong citrus hops, pine, slight resin, hint of alcohol, and a hint of sweet malt. Fits the style of an American IPA. Mouth feel is very sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of mango, citrus hops, floral hops, pine, citrus, and slight sweet malt. Overall, weak appearance, good aroma, body, and blend, but too sharp.

Got this on tap, never heard of it before but it sounded good. Medium haze, golden yellow color, decent white head. Nice fruity citrus and pine notes balanced by moderate hop, just a small amount of malt. Pretty balanced, not aggressively bitter.

Very drinkable for this kind of IPA. Would definitely order again.

I wasn't sure what to expect with this one but I was pleasantly surprised. Smell is slightly grassy with a wonderful punch of tropical fruits. Taste is similar with light lingering bitter finish. I'm getting Citra hops here. Just a slight touch of that funky farmhouse yeast in the background. Smooth, easy drinking, and tasty with great balance. yb

A nice surprise. Clean and balanced with some juice notes. Not the malt bomb that I was expecting. A little tropical and a little resiny. Not in your face and an easy drinker.

Wow- date code says best by 15 AUG 18, packaged 15 AUG 17. Pretty optimistic I would say.
16 oz can into tapered pint.
Hazy with medium head.
Initial smell of strong pineapple, but disappears rather fast to a malt smell. Probably due to the age of can.
Juice for .4 seconds, fades to malt and bitter hop.
Mouth-feel is pretty light for the haze and the fruit. Carbonation a little high.
Besides the crazy implied shelf life the can says "Neo-Tropic India Pale Ale". Is this a snub at the controversial NEPIA style? This thing says NEPIA all over the glass I poured it in.

L: Golden and very hazy
S: Pleasant and not overpowering
T: Quick upfront tropical fruits, doesn't build into anything heavy, but a nice citrus sweetness. End notes find lime or lemon zest
F: Good weight and mouthfeel. Pleasant hops and a maltiness that tasted right
O: The guys at Whole Foods pointed this out to me. Great suggestion

L: hazy gold and the glass is filled with floaties – chunks of coagulated proteins floating up and down like snow flakes in a snow globe.

S: the tropical fruit and citrus aromas are there but are muted.

T: Tropical fruit flavors show up more on the tongue joined medium bread crumb malt flavors and medium to medium high hop bitterness. Bitterness lingers balanced by a light sweetness. Oxidized wet cardboard flavors are just starting to peek through.

F: This full flavored, medium bodied beer has medium high carbonation.

O: It has a lot of promise but like the folks you run into at your 50 year reunion, it is well past its prime.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into an IPA glass.

Appearance: Pours a hazy golden orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. Solid finger of white head which settles into a thin creamy layer.

Smell: A juicy and piney hop driven aroma with a scent of citrus fruit and pine resin. Upfront scent of citrus hops with a scent of orange peel, grapefruit, lemon zest, mango, melon, pineapple, and passion fruit. Earthy hop scent of pine resin and grass. Light malt hints of biscuit and cracker along with some yeast and honey sweetness. A very solid aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a juicy and piney hop driven taste with notes of tropical fruit and pine. Upfront taste of citrus hops with notes of grapefruit, orange peel, lemon, mango, melon, passion fruit, and pineapple. Earthy hop notes of pine resin and grass. Background malt notes of cracker and biscuit along with some yeast. Sweet notes of honey. A pretty nice taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Juicy and fairly oily with a drying finish.

Overall: A very good West Coast style IPA. Good juicy citrus fruit and pine notes.
