Notes / Commercial Description:
Human history is filled with myths and legends that shape and define our culture. Rituals, celebrations, gatherings.. whatever. One thing that’s for sure, is we enjoy a proper shindig. So let’s get the stories flowing and share a little ’Folklore’. A bracingly deep ale, built dark and rich with an elegantly lean body, accompanied by heady aromas of Belgian yeast, earthy hops and gently kissed by a wisp of smoke.

This beer was formerly known as 25 to One.

From Miguel. In Teku glass. Removing beer labels. Just the adequate amount of licorice and pleasant herbal bitterness. Some chocolate, roasted without unpleasant torrefact notes

Pours a dark black color with coffee-chocolate hints; Nice ring of head even in Tulsa Doom, the snifter that seems to decapitate all heads.

Very Belgian in its aroma - everything from metallic yeast strains to fig notes and quad-like bourbon soaked dates. Still, there's a hint of oats and coffee underneath that seems to bring it into 10% stout category.

Strong coffee notes out front, followed by a mix of unsweetened cocoa, dark belgian yeast, dark berry, metallic plum, roots, and light ash. The finish is what I can only describe as bourbon soaked rice. All of that 8.4% is felt AND tasted. Very much a Belgian Dark Ale and on a lesser level a stout, but still a pretty fair comparison to say it's a mix between the two.

Feel flirts between medium and full bodied, with a distinct chalky dryness on the finish. Moderate carbonation throughout, definitely not sharp or strong.

Overall, yes, it's interesting. It's something best drank ice cold and not pondered over. When just simply sipped without thoughts going through your mind on what you're tasting, it works pretty well. When you attempt to pick apart the anatomy of Folklore, it begins to taste like an ashy fruity coffee chalk mess.

From the 12 oz bottle in a snifter. This fine stout pours a dark brownish black
with a modest had of khaki foam that settles to a thick ring. Nose of chocolate and dark
fruits with a touch of molasses. Flavors exceed the nose with dark fruited notes and dark
sweet chocolate mingling with a touch of dark molasses and a touch of lightly smoked
malts on the rear and aftertaste. Very nice mouth feel, smooth, moderately carbonated,
and full bodied without being chewy and a sweet subtly dry finish. VERY nice.

Cheers

Poured into a small rocks glass: color is black with brown edges, head is light tan which presents 1/4 inch thick then dissipates to a ring.

Smell is light with light roast hints of plum/raisin like notes but they last quick and not strong.

The taste transitions from a subtle aroma to a big flavor and presence: flavors are moderate roast, then pleasantly strong plum/raisin fruitiness.

Mouthfeel is pleasant, nice carbonation, solid sweet/bitterness.

Overall this is a solid dark ale with nice yeast byproduct flavors and enticing roasted malt qualities.

Folklore was given to me by a coworker who has found a new love in all sorts of stouts and found this one interesting. I would certainly have to agree with him. It's labeled a stout on the bottle, but from the pint glass, it was getting all sorts of other great flavors. I was reminded of some of my favorite ESB's and darker non-stouts, and overall I really enjoyed it!

Pours dark, opaque brown with thin white head. Nose is malty sweetness, coffee, and chocolate, a little oaky. Taste starts off as coffee and chocolate, rolls through a phase of bitterness, and then fades into plum and a little smoke. The mouthfeel is chewy and carbonated.

It claims to be an untraditional stout, but there's not really anything here to set it apart from traditional stouts.

Cocoa carob and caramel. Tastes a little bit like mixing a heavy duty stout with a strong, dark, Belgian ale. Lots of stuff going on on the palate. I would get this again. The label calling this a stout threw me off a little bit but I can dig it.

A- Tan head that dissipates quickly. Pours a pitch black.
S- Sweet and a little smoky. Chocolate
T- A little booze on the backend, but mainly smoke and chocolate.
M- Light carb and slick feel
D- A solid stout! Wish I could try their BA version.
