Notes / Commercial Description:
Human history is filled with myths and legends that shape and define our culture. Rituals, celebrations, gatherings.. whatever. One thing that’s for sure, is we enjoy a proper shindig. So let’s get the stories flowing and share a little ’Folklore’. A bracingly deep ale, built dark and rich with an elegantly lean body, accompanied by heady aromas of Belgian yeast, earthy hops and gently kissed by a wisp of smoke.

This beer was formerly known as 25 to One.

Pours black with a large fading head.
Nose shows dry roasted malt, cocoa, milk chocolate and oatmeal.
Flavours include big chocolate notes, dry roasted barley and a hint of liquorice too. A nice amount of residual sweetness.
Carbonation is a bit aggressive.

12 oz bottle, served in a Duvel tulip.

A- Pours dark brown with a short, quarter inch light brown head.

S- Roasted malts and loads of dark fruits.

T- Similar to the nose, but even roastier, with almost a smokey component.

M- Medium bodied with a higher amount of carbonation, especially for the style.

O- I would probably get this again if I saw it on tap somewhere, just to give it another go. Not a bad beer.

look: 4.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.25

Appearance:
Pitch black body allows no light penetration. Generous mahogany head has decent short-term retention, but eventually dwindles to nada. Plenty of carbonation and decent legs can be seen.

Aroma:
Very malty and moderately sweet (molasses) to the nose. Cocoa nibs laced with coffee, a hint of smoked peat, and licorice. Trace cola and ginger root.

Taste:
Everything your nose picks up will carry over in the taste with the addition of dark fruit right up front. sweet throughout with a bit of bite from the alcohol on the tail end.

Mouthfeel:
Catch-you-off-guard light body and moderately carbonated. Easy to drink with a clean, sweet finish.

Overall:
Another fantastic beer from Stillwater and a bit of a head-scratcher. The best way I can describe this beer is it's a Russian Imperial Meets a Black Lager or Schwarzbier. Easy to drink and packed with complexity and flavor, it's definitely worth your time (and money).
