Stillwater Artisanal Ales
Maryland, United States

Style: Bière de Garde

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.40%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
It’s my pleasure to present a collaboration with The Brewer’s Art. A Baltimore institution that helped to pioneer the Belgian beer movement in the States. Brewed with a combination of Spelt & Rye, accented with a blend of Heather, Honeysuckle, and Hyssop. The result is a rustic farmhouse ale displaying earthy tones & floral characteristics while maintaining intricate balance.

12 oz bottle poured into a pokal.

Golden with a short had that recedes immediately. Slightly hazy with lively carbonation.

Caramelized grains, potpourri, pink peppercorn, and lemongrass.

Caramel covered grains with some breadiness and dollops of honey. Potpourri, pink peppercorn, and lavender. Lemon zest and a bright floral character.

Medium bodied, smooth, crisp, off-dry, and refreshing.

Spicy, floral, and very refreshing. A nice Bière de Garde.

750 mL bottle courtesy of mwrecording pours a lightly hazed gold with a firm cap of white head. Good retention and average lace.

Nose is peaches, apricots, bready yeast and lightly tropical hops.

Taste is nice and yeasty, I would believe it if someone told me this was brewed in Belgium. A superb crackery, light malt base - super dry with a little hop bite to round things out. This is a fantastic beer, I would absolutely love to have another sometime very soon.

The beer comes in a beautiful honey amber color. Bright and rich and vibrant. A sexy brew.

The aroma has honey, light caramel, light brown sugar, very floral and sweet floral honey.

The flavor is driven by malt with some spice in the front. Caramel sweetness, a bit sugary quality on the mid palate. Some drying of floral and herbs. A rich honey on the back end.

Light mouthfeel. The appearance and aroma sold me, but the flavor was a bit disappointing, though as it warms up, the flavor slightly comes through more.
