Located behind BJ's, California Wine & Spirits is a nice liquor, wine, and beer store in the Lexington Park/California area.

To give you an idea of selection and prices, last evening I purchase a 4-pack of Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout and a bottle of Dogfish Head's Chateau Jiahu. This paired purchase ran me around $27, which is probably on the high end of "reasonable" for price. In the past, I've picked up Aventinus, a sixer of Sierra Nevada's Celebration Ale, and He'brew's Rejewvenator (Year of the Grape). They also carry the full line of Sam Adams, the usual imports, and several somewhat hard-to-find selections (see above), especially for this area. Customers do have the option of creating a six pack, a nice feature considering the decent selection.

The store also has a very good wine and liquor selection.

One gentleman behind the counter was particularly conversant about beer. It's always nice to have that in a store where beer, perhaps, is not the main focus.

This place is fairly new to the area, behind the BJ's in some new office space type buildings. It has a fairly large wine area, but pretty much the entire back wall of the place is a beer cooler. You can also mix six packs. They have a good selection of Sam Smith, some Weyerbacher offerings (mainly Fireside Ale), Stone, Troegs, Saranac, etc. They have a wide range of craft brewers and usually carry the more popular offerings from them, so if you want a "rare" brand from Troegs (like Flying Mouflan), then its not here.

They will order beer for you if they can. We ordered a case of Old Rasputin and Old #38 Stout from them, with good results. The downside is that you have to buy the whole case if you order it. Overall a welcome addition to the limited craft beer carrying liquor stores of SOMD.

UPDATE 5/20/2010: This place has stepped it up a notch with increased offerings of all of their brands. Weyerbacher Insanity, Tiny as well as some Great Divide offerings that I haven't seen before there. I also got some Flying Mouflan ordered from them and didn't have to buy the whole case, which is a good thing.
