Blend of 1-, 2- 3- and 4-year old lambic - 4-year old component at least 25% of the blend - all fermented and lagered in oak barrels and vessels. With Doesjel, the wild fermentation of the young lambic did not continue throughout the bottle conditioning as the yeast "dozed in" ("ingedoesjeld"). This beer has no head, just like lambic so please don't panic.

375 ml. bottle.
Blend #41
19/20
6.0% abv.
Bottled 02/13/20

Vigorous pour yields a fleeting 1/4 inch white head over a golden/light amber body with no lacing.

Nose of citrus, musty oak, slight funk, and slight toast.

Taste follows nose pretty closely with grapefruit, green apple, a bit of barnyard funk, and slight white wine vinegar near the medium tart finish.

Mouthfeel is surprisingly fuller and thicker than expected from first completely flat sip.

Overall, I'm glad I got to finally try this after unearthing this from the crisper drawer in my fridge!
Cheers!!

Poured from 375mL coked & caged bottle into my BeerAdvocate teku. 19|20 season, bottled 2/13/20.

Appearance: rich golden hue with a moderate haze and almost no head to speak of. I know such beers can have a low carbonation, but there is basically nothing here at all. Color is nice, though!

Smell: a light, malty sweetness, accompanied by a nicely round sourness. The overall effect is a little candylike, if there were candy that smelled like malt, grass, and hay. I really like it.

Taste: lightly sweet and quite tart, there is a nice lingering malt flavor to the aftertaste. I like it, but it doesn't have quite the dimensionality of flavors that the aroma has.

Mouthfeel: I don't know if ultra-low carbonation is typical of this particular beer, but this bottle definitely lacks carbonation. There's a good texture, but without much carbonation to back it up, it's falling a bit short.

Overall: not a bad gueuze; I'm rather enjoying it, and the smell is great. A little bit more carbonation would do this beer wonders, however.

very tasty geueze, quite funky, very leathery, oaky, nutty, white wine, pepper, vinegar, highly acidic, light bodied, no carbonation which really is missed, still makes for pleasant sipping though.

Blend 41, Season 19|20, Bottled 2/13/20

Gueuze is typically a blend of 1/2/3 year old Lambic, so it’s cool that this one adds in 4 year old Lambic at a 25% ratio. I’d prefer it have this additional older blend in a carbonated Gueuze, but I won’t complain about it being still. Let’s pop it open and see what it’s all about

Pours a cloudy orange gold with no head (obviously), just a ring of whitish bubbles

This one is just violently funky in the nose. I’m picking up on aromas of wet hay, old leather, sweet honey, crabapple, sharp oak, lemon zest, light toast, and tart apricot

It’s a bit more gentle in taste, but it still has a strong funk to it. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting apple skin, lemon juice, straw, wildflower honey, sharp oak, stone, and white wine vinegar. The swallow brings notes of crabapple, sharp oak, old leather, wet hay, stone, tannic white wine, peach, and light honey

A light medium body with no carbonation results in a tart and slightly buttery feel. Finishes a tad sticky but nothing too obnoxious

This is definitely an interesting one. The stillness is cool but I miss the bite of carbonation

Bottled on 5/2/2013 (best by 5/2023); consumed on 8/11/2022

Pours a brilliant, crystal-clear, deep orange-copper body, almost entirely still while forming a sparse array of off-white bubbling to comprise a surprisingly stalwart collar around the surface; no lacing whatsoever holds to the walls of the glass.

Aroma brings nectarine flesh into a staunch minerality as wisps of oaky floralilty prove a casual transition to grassy overtones of springtime pasture sporting edges of manure and barnyard funk settling.

Taste opens to firm minerality and toasty malt sporting lacto-funk with a whiff of barnyard; the mid-palate embraces a deeper, toasted grain inflection, peaking to burnt sesame cracker, musty stone fruits, and subtle horse blanket on the back end of the profile.

Mouthfeel shows a medium-light body, entirely still, imparting a rounded slickness to a dry, concentrated acidity; faded tartness over the mid-palate leaves a flatness easing through the finish as a pillowy, distantly gritty tartness persists.

A still funk is softened, faded by time though showing reasonable intrigue in evolution as subtle stone fruits engage a wavering, acidic potency; a bit past its prime, the expression is increasingly muted yet entirely clean.

Foggy autumnal orange with a little surprise of fizzling carbonation that expectedly vanishes henceforth.

It's amazing what carbonation does to a beverage. The citrusy tartness is a lot more dominant without it, dampening the wonderfully toasty, crackery oak and funk I adore about 3F Geuze more than any other.

At the same time, the absence of carbonation makes for a uniquely, quenchingly drinkable, almost orange juice-like breakfast treat, as the body isn't as light here as I thought it would be, consisting of a sort of firmly medium, almost silky heft.

Blend 41, season 19-20.

Pours a semi clear golden orange with pretty much no head.

Smell is sour and crisp. Notes of Seville oranges, lemon peel, funk, gooseberries and some fruity hints.

Taste is crisp and mildly sour. Notes of green apples, lemon peel, grapefruit, oak and some mineral hints. A bit of citrus peel bitterness and hints of gooseberries and vanilla. Very easy to drink.

Mouthfeel is smooth with pretty much no carbonation.

Overall, a terrific flat lambic, easy to drink and refreshing.
