330ml squat bottle, the twin to the Blonde that recently arrived here in Alberta.

This beer pours a slightly hazy, medium golden yellow colour, with a teeming tower of puffy, loosely foamy, and somewhat creamy off-white head, which leaves some layered sudsy lace around the glass as it lazily subsides.

It smells of bready and crackery pale malt, some apple and lemony citrus fruitiness, subtle earthy yeast, and a spicy, leafy, and grassy hop bitterness. The taste is gritty and grainy pale malt, a separate biscuity/crackery thing, kind of soured apples, muddled citrus, a testy yeastiness, and more leafy, floral and dead grassy hoppiness.

The carbonation is adequate in its oft palate-pricking frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and sort of smooth, as the yeast and the hops seem a tad clumsy in their traipsing about here. It finishes trending dry, the malt bottoming out a bit, while the hoppy, fruity, and yeasty esters linger on like the bosses they wanna be.

Overall, this is a well-made Euro-lager, the robust flavours attesting to that, and the minor (thankfully) yeastiness doing the same for its particular Belgian origins. Sassy, and a bit of a challenge to put back, but I mean that in the best of ways. Good stuff.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a hazy, medium golden amber with a half finger white head with great retention and lots of lacing. Aroma of grainy, lightly bready malt, grassy and spicy hops, light apple juice and lemon; has a Pilsner profile. Flavor is biscuit malt, grain, lemon citrus, apple juice, grassy hops with a husky, grainy and dry grassy finish. Medium bodied with light creaminess. The flavor, like the aroma leans towards a Pilsner profile, but more grainy grassy. The finish has an almost rustic graininess that is so flavorful that won me over despite being a bit unusual. There is a subtle, lightly sweet grain flavor in the finish that leaves a good linger taste. I'm a bit jaded about lagers these days, but I liked this.

Has a decent, froth head, with a pale golden, slightly cloudy color.

Nose is defined by a moldy funkiness with typical lager qualities, wooden, toasty malts with bitter hops and hints of straw.

Has an enjoyable, gentle bitterness to it, which goes well along with straw, white bread malts and a funky, brett defined leather note. Hops interact in an interesting fashion with the earthy malts, on which the funkiness settles. Unfortunately those different flavors don’t seem to come together too well until the very finish, in which rich, earthy malts become the most recognizable flavor. Ends a little watery, with a very late hops impact, which tastes a bit ankward because of the added acidity.

Orangey copper color with some sticky white dots of foam. Peaches, dates and brown sugar and bread on the nose. Breast hearty notes with straw hang on the nose. Taste is light with wheat notes up front but turns tangy with a mild cedar bitterying. Finishes with a mild vinegar and pinot gris flavor and graphite. Again a hearty funk builds in the back of the throat. Not sure if my bottle had a problem because it feels flat. Texture feels thin and weak but finishes nice with a lot of pronounced tangy flavors. This beer is most unique. The flavoring of a quad on the finish and a light mellow body of a light beer. The big booziness of the quad is missing though. It needs a bit more body up front to balance out the excellent finish.

I'm getting a dulled chlorine thing going on. Very lager like. This is suffering from some water malady. Bummer.

On tap at Ebenezer’s. Served in a cervoise. Hazy pale orange. Fluffy white head. Smells bready and kinda yeasty. Light fruitiness. Tastes very bready. Light grassy hop bite. Clean finish with a nice bitterness. Medium body. Creamy and smooth carbonation. Well made.

11.2 floz stubby bottle sealed with green pressure cap. No bottle date to indicate freshness or bottling date.

poured into a white etched New Glarus Staghorn Glass Stein.

Appearance: Translucent yellow bodied beer with 2 full fingers of white head. Good head retention and thick lacing on the side of the stein.

Smell: Lots of pears and fruity yeast. Does not smell like it is very hoppy. Sweet grainy/cracker/bready malt profile.

Taste: Pilsner malts, pears, white pepper, fruity yeast, light lingering bitterness; hops are grassy and floral. The hops taste stale, but are still have discernable flavors.

Mouthfeel: light bodied beer with moderate carbonation level. This is a really smooth lager. Nice mouthfeel with delicate and soft carbonation.

Overall: This beer was getting clearanced for 1.99 a bottle at the store i picked it up at. I have wanted to tick this 3F beer for a while now. It is solid, but it might be stale. Among the other Zwickel's that I have tried, I prefer New Glarus Yokel and Urban Chestnut Zwickel over this 3F beer. That may change when I have a bottle that I can verify as a fresh bottle.
