Notes: Blackberry Harvest 2018

Braambes is the result of maceration of whole blackberries, picked by hand, in young traditional lambic, for 4.5 months. Then, this blackberry lambic is assembled with young lambic, everything is bottled and fermentation continues in the bottle. Braambes is a special ripe lambic beer, with an intense bouquet of fruits that evolves in the glass. Natural fruit, without added juice, syrups or sugars. Unfiltered and unpasteurized. The lambics come from four barrels: 75% 3 Fonteinen and 25% lambic brewed by Brouwerij Lindemans.

750ml bottle, Braambes Oogst 2018 on the side sticker, Season 18|19 cork and Blend No. 38 stamped on the reverse of the bottle, poured into a stemless wine glass. Enjoyed on 01.19.2020, reviewed from Tasting Journal.

The beer pours a rich burgundy color, hazy and opaque with nice garnets and browns as it's struck by light with no real head, just a thin layer of film and spots of lacing. The aroma is lovely, lush blackberry, excellent earthy funk, citrus rind with a touch of fruity candied hop, delicate wine barrel with a nice vinous acidity. The flavors are great, tart and fresh blackberry, nice earthy stone fruits, dry funk, vinous red wine barrel, chewy oak with a nice floral character and a lingering sweet candied hop and tart lemon peel. The mouthfeel is great, coating with a light and bubbly body, bright and crisp with a tart and dry finish.

Verdict: A very nice fruited lambic from Drie Fonteinen. Bright, fresh, delicate and very refreshing with an incredible expression of funk and blackberry.
