375ml bottle into a tulip appears deep cherry red to mahogany with a pink stained cap a finger tall.

The aroma is kinda off-putting at first coming off like wet leather, then wet dog and vinegar with heavy brett mustiness and funky blue cheese before cherry skins/pits emerge.

The taste is tart like sour cherries with depth of cherry flavor tasting a bit like almonds, vanilla and cherry pits/skin and flesh but with zero residual sweetness and a touch of herbal bitterness.

This is medium in body with low carbonation. I truly feel the lack of carbonation gives this an easier overall drinkability and slightly tempered acidity that is otherwise much more sharp in 3f kriek. Id buy more of this in a heartbeat

Sampled July 2010 at 3F Lambikodroom
I talked to Armand about the Lambic that he uses to make Kriek and he said that you want to use young Lambic from the same brew season so that you get a vigorous fermentation after adding the cherries.

This is very dark, with a concentrated cherry color, it is quite clear and typically flat; the color is just so dark, again I find it quite surprising how dark these fresh Krieks are. This smells a bit medicinal and of plastic, but it really smells mostly of cherries that reminds me of black cherries (as opposed to the typical sour type of cherry). Hmm, this isn't really plastic, but instead reminds me of roses; huge, expressive, floral rose aromatics just seem to expansively emanate from my glass. Sort of potpourri like, sort of a touch like a floral soap, or perhaps even carnations might be another descriptor for the nose on this beer.

The beer is still lightly sweet tasting and it finishes with a big rose-like flavor as well as a deep berry character that seems quite vinous actually. This is very different than the Cantillon Kriekenlambik (the Cuvee Moeder version) that I had recently or even than the Schaarbeekse Kriek versions that I have had. The rose flavors move to notes of potpourri, berry like flavors and even the berry jam like character one finds in a red wine. This is not as tart tasting as the Lambic I just had, but there is lots of tannic character here that seems to remind me of cherry skins that stick to the teeth.

Apparently this Kriekenlambik was from the bottom of the vat, after bottling, and it is darker and more concentrated because of it; this is part of the source of the floral character and darker color that is a typical of a Kriek. There are also some Schaarbeekse cherries in this batch. This is just a very nice beer, I really like how unique the cherry character is in it floral quality.

On cask at the Lambik-O-droom. I believe Armand told me this was young lambic with macerated cherries from a steel tank. I know I remember him saying something about a steel tank. Beautiful pink color in the new 3F wine glass. Super cherry aroma. Flavor was delicious cherries, lambic, almost no sourness. One of the best lambics I tasted in Belgium and the best I had at 3F that day.

Cork flew out once I twisted the cork. Gushed. Blend 32 of the 16/17 season. Consumed 6/2018.

Deep cherry color. Murky because of the bottle bomb.

Big cherry and cherry skin flavor. Cherry pie and then a lot of tartness. Pretty easy drinking. A lot of flavor. Nice summer beer. Wish it was flat though.

Served at Drie Fonteinen after finishing the most delicious Beef Carbonnade ever.

A: Deep bloody red body. Large fizzy pinkish head. The most beautiful crash ever as the head collapsed in a wonderful crescendo. Only the faintest lacing left on the sides of the glass.

S: Waves of tart cherries. Lactic notes as well as some leather and oak. Hints at the sourness to come.

T: Delicious tart dark cherries. Lactic acid and musty oak. Lightly vinous. Potent sourness. Not much in the way of sweet cherries here.

M: Smooth, light carbonation. Refreshing dry finish. A nice tart palate cleansing drink that was a perfect complement to the delicious meal.

D: A very nice kriek. I prefer krieks to have a little more sweetness than this did, but I certainly would never turn this one down.

On draft at 3 Fonteinen. I enjoyed one of these while chatting away with Armand on a rainy day. Anyhow, the beer is ruby red with a thick purplish, pink head. The aroma is cherry juice and hints of yeast. Much sweeter than a standard 3 Fonteinen kriek. Sugary sweet cherries, cherry pie, pie crust with hints of tartness in the finish. Lingering fruity sugars. A tasty beer for sure, but I much prefer the regular, more tart, krieks from this awesome brewery. Absolutely worth a try if you are fortunate enough to make the pilgrimage here.

Appearance was a gorgeous royal red with a few specks, huge pink bubbly head.
Smell was cherries and bread dough.
Taste was wonderfully sour, lots of fruit, some citrus, no sweetness, just a bit of must. Dry finish.
Mouth sensation was amazing, very easy drinking, especially with a pot of mussels. Definitely to be sought out.

Assemblage #32. Bottled 24/05/17.

From the bottle:
Oude Kriekenlambik is obtained by macerating hand-picked cherries on young traditional lambic, for at least four months. However, the fermentation in the bottle has not happened. Natural fruit, without the addition of juices, syrups, or sugars. Unfiltered and unpasteurized.

This kriekenlambik has not had less than six months of fruit maceration.

Serving suggestions: in a burgundy wine glass and at cellar temperature. Feel free to roll the glass around to fully release the aromas. Cheers!

I would expect to pour a still, or nearly still, lambik for the style but it had a ton of carbonation that held the entire glass. Not as funky as a traditional oude kriek but nice and tart. Very cherry forward in taste.

From a 33cl bottle at the Drie Fonteinen restaurant during last week's Belgium trip. Reviewed from notes.

Served in a Drie Fonteinen tumbler.

Pours a very bright red with a two-finger, long-lasting pink head and some night lacing as it finally dies down.

The nose was full of powerful cherries. Very tart with a bit of sweetness. The cherry character in this was quite amazing. Super fresh with a nice bit of acidity in the end. Slightly puckering throughout.

The freshness of this one was unmatched and I actually enjoyed it quite a bit more than the regular Oude Kriek.

On draft - served in a small 3F glass

Enjoyed at the Drie Fonteinen Restaurant in Beersel (early June 2012).

A: Deep burgundy. 1.5 (off-pink) fingernail head.

S: Smells of tart cherry, funk, and mild sweetness.

T: Dark cherry juice with light hint of sweetness and oak. Lively tartness and uber refreshing. Acidity and must/funk is well balanced.

M: Light/medium bodied with soft carbonation.

O: Very drinkable and quite fun to try (straight from the source)!

375 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 5/24/2017. Pours slightly hazy deep ruby red color with a 1 finger dense pink head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big sour/tart/tangy cherries, fruit skin/pits, lemon, lime, cranberry, orange, raspberry, plum, green apple, melon, red grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, oak, wheat, and cracker; with light notes of oaken vanilla, almond, leathery/musty funk, red wine vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, cherries, oak, and moderate pale/wheat malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big sour/tart/tangy cherries, fruit skin/pits, lemon, lime, cranberry, orange, raspberry, plum, green apple, melon, red grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, oak, wheat, and cracker; with light notes of oaken vanilla, almond, leathery/musty funk, red wine vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tart/sourness, fruit tang, and light yeast/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart/tangy cherries, fruit skin/pits, lemon, lime, cranberry, orange, raspberry, plum, green apple, melon, red grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, oak, wheat, cracker, light funk/vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, cherries, oak, and moderate pale/wheat malt flavors; with an awesome malt/tartness and tangy fruit balance; with zero puckering flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from tartness and tangy fruit. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately grainy/acidic/tangy, and lightly tannic mouthfeel that is fantastic. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.4%. Overall this is an outstanding fruited lambic. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, cherries, oak, and moderate pale/wheat malt flavors; very smooth and refreshing tro drink with the mellowly acidic/tangy/drying finish, not overly lactic. Not as funky/sour as I expected, but still impressive. Not as huge on the cherries as I was hoping for, but definitely plenty there. Nicely juicy/jammy cherries, Brett/Lacto complexity, oak presence, and balanced pale/wheat malts against acidity. A highly enjoyable offering, and well made style example as expected.
