From a 375 ml bottle (December 5, 2012) to a geuze glass.

A-The beer poured golden clear (I did not pour the entire bottle). A fat two-finger head of white foam had great retention and left some chunks of lace on the glass as I drank it down. Carbonation was very active.

S-The aroma is tart with heavy notes of malt vinegar and a little sweet tart sweetness. Some oak creeps in with a pretty mild funk. Just a little cheese smell beneath the sour vinegar. A touch simple.

T-The taste is also heavy on the malt vinegar flavor. There is a lot of acidity going on with flavors of green apple and lemon being prominent. I also pick up some grainy malt, but this beer is on the drier side of average. The taste has less oak than the smell would suggest.

M-The body is lighter than average with a carbonation that is soft and creamy for a gueze. It is drinkable despite the high acid content.

O-This is a very good beer, but the aroma and flavor lack a little complexity compared to my favorite examples of the style, e.g., Golden Blend. The feel is really unique and helps with drinkability.

I love 3F Oude Gueuze. Would be happy drinking this every day.

There is an underlying funk that reminds me of sesame crackers, that's key to the 3F "house character." But apart from that sesame aspect and strong citrus flavor's, there is significant variation between batches, and I've found some more dark and earthy, and some just that clean and bright lemongrass.

Mouthfeel is a bit more spritzy than Cantillon or Tilquin, and the bitterness level is lower.

Highly recommended. My favorite shelf gueuze.

Poured to an oversized wine glass.

A: When pouring, the beer showed a beautiful body of yellow-y and orage-y colour with a very crystalline touch to it. The head is white and is one finger thick, showing lots of good retention and mild lacing.
S: The aroma is salty and barnyard-y, but not much as fresh lambic. It's more soft then expected. There's a prosciutto touch to the aroma.
T: There's a first sweet spot when the beer comes to mouth of malt and unidentified sugary sources. After that, the simple acidity lays in to finish the taste with an apple aftertaste.
M: Body is medium to medium low. Carbonation is high and bit harsh. No alcohol is noticeable. Acidity is mild.
O: My first geuze, and I like this beer very much.

Bottle date 2015 Oct 21. Drinking on 2017 Feb 2nd.
Extremely carbonated, funky, slightly tart, dry mouth feel and finish, fresh oak, and light fruits.
Half way through and the head is gone along with most of the carbonation.

Copper and golden with almost no carbonation, a slight haze and no head! No gusher whatsoever.

Smells of oak barrels, macaroni, sour and acidic, burnt rubber, and gravel.

Sour with no sweetness whatsoever. I get the barrel, burnt rubber and gravel on the tongue. Macaroni and light dried fruit like apricots.

Soft but acidic body, with little carbonation.

Got this in Santa Rosa, California a few months back. It was bottled Oct 21st, 2015, and I'm drinking it on Jan 21st, 2017. It could have lasted until Oct 2035 according to the label, but why wait? I've been wanting to try this fantastic brew for a long time! Today I'm in Chiang Mai.

A - This is one of the finest looking Belgian beers I've seen. Superb, ultra clear orange body, some trace carbonation appearing in the pour, almost no head and no real sign of lacing. Pretty, pretty beer.

S - A challenging nose, typical of style, but with the wood and sour notes turned up, and the funky farm notes dialed back. Biting, but inviting.

T - Initially, there is not much more here than in the nose - a finely honed exploration of wood and acidity. But this is a surprisingly drinkable rendition, as the strong acidic bite of the front opens into wood and funky middle notes, and a close that hints lemons and limestone, keeping with a strong sour wallop that slowly fades.

M - The pucker is there, and there is no mistaking that this is highly sour, but it remains inviting, calling you back.

O - Geuze are not my thing, but this is expertly done. Depth mingles with a muscular front, making for a rich, refreshing experience.

Beautifully carbonated. Streaming bubbles in the glass.
Murky hazy auburn colour.
Nose blew my mind. Cedar, apple cider vinegar, leather. All combined in an artful feat.
Crisp taste of apple, spice, acidity and tartness.
Sooooo good.

Purchased this online and this is an exceptional gueuze. Surely a tad pricey but totally worth it! It's far better than cheap champagne. Will definitely buy again, well done 3F.

2015 vintage
~ 1 year and 2 months from bottling date

Appearance- Pours a golden color, bright glistening hues, transparent. Fast rising carbonation bubbles lead to a two finger thick bubbly white head, effervescent. Not much head lacing on glass.

Aroma- Dry oak, spicy earthiness. Musty, chalky, funky dryness, wet hay, grassy notes. Touch of tart lemon and mild sweet fruitiness.

Taste- Tart lemon, green apple, sweet pineapple, citrus zest, bursts with tart fruity sweetness. Dry oak, spice, earthy minerality, dried leaves, herbal tea. Slight funkiness, creamy cheese, chalky dry finish.

Feel- Medium bodied, mild tartness throughout, finishes with an earthy dry bitterness. Moderate to higher carbonation, effervescent and fluffy, accentuates the flavors well.

Overall- Bursting zesty, tart fruitiness leads to wonderfully complex earthy notes. Each flavor seems layered and nuanced, and at the same time comes together in such a beautiful way. The mouthfeel and body fits everything together perfectly. Its crisp and refreshing, juicy and flavorful.

2016 bottle served cold.

Soft carbonation, lemons, slightly tart, very complex Brett profile, pineapples, tart cherries, less sour than I expected. This is a fantasting beer.

Pretty disappointed in this beer, given that it is so highly rated. The beer itself is extremely well made, but the flavors I got are not what I was expecting. Pours a deeper golden hue with huge head. Smells great. There is an old musty funkiness going on. It smells like an old dank cellar. The must comes through on the flavor which was a little surprising, as dominated the flavor profile, thereby muting the other flavors I was picking up. There is a slight fruitiness to the flavor as well. I was also expecting some kind of sour to come through, but it too was presented with a musty whimper. There are elements of malt and oak on the backend.

Hazy copper-gold with a soft blanket and tons of thick lace.

Smell is funky spicy pepper and lemon and toasted sesame. There is actually a dank hoppiness, nearing burnt rubber, to certain vintages I've had.

Taste is bitter funk, spicy grapefruit, cherry pit, toasted cracker, with a frothy medium body.

A - Pours a hazy golden orange with a two finger foamy white head. The head recedes quickly leaving some good soapy lacing.

S - Aroma is green apple, lemon and some light funk.

T - The taste lemon, green apple, white grape, musty funk with a sharpe acidic finish.

M - Medium body with medium/high carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel with a crisp dry finish.

O - Very good Gueuze. The flavors are crisp and refreshing.

Shared bottle.
Hazy Amber body topped by an excellent head. Very lively carbonation.
Moderately funky aroma and flavor with some barnyard elements and fairly high tartness and complexity.

Bright orangy straw color, and fluffy white head. Lots of funk and wood on the nose. Tart, oak, and lemon on the palate, with a medium body mouthfeel. Great Geuze!

Poured from a cork and cage 375 into a snifter, the beer is a vibrant, hazed, golden coloring with a sparse surface coating of white head. Aromas of tart and sour white grape must, subtle lemon juice, solid yeast funk and esters, and some earthy highlights. Flavors are acidic and tartly sour forward, heavy on the wine-like white grape characteristics, with a solid dose of lemon juice tart, some solid yeast funk and mustiness, and a grainy backbone. Solid sourness at the end of the palate, as well. The body is very dry and very crisp, with a puckering sourness controlling the aftertaste and drying the palate. Astringent and acidic finish, leaving the mouth watering for more. Not much truer beer to the style out there than this one!

This was bottled in 2010 and I left it in the cellar until 6-20-16.

L: It pours hazy gold with an orange tint under a ½” off—white to cream colored foam cap that takes 2 minutes to reduce to a thick film. S: Tart, lemony, some light wet horse blanket, hints of yogurt, some herbal notes.

T: Extremely refreshing dry lemony tartness with traces of funk, faint vanilla notes. Has a trace of yogurt-like tartness.

F: Exceptionally creamy texture – airy, very fine soft bubbles

O: An exceptional beer that has grown elegant and refined after six years in the cellar.

Man this was outstanding. Delicious sour. In fact, this is probably the single most delicious sour I have had. Nice funk mixed with perfect amount if tart, sour, lemon, citrus. Feel is also really on point. Yum!

Pours a deep rich honey gold. With white head. Some cheese funk, red pepper spice, and cidery aroma. A little sweet red peppers up front, some mild apple cider character, some sour/tart hay. It's not too harsh or acidic. It's a touch citrusy. Actually, very pleasant to drink in that it's a little light. In some ways, it reminds me of a less harsh Iris. It's a little thin too. There's a faint bitterness on the finish that cuts the cider character nicely. It's an easy drinking gueuze as gueuze should be. I go back and forth with this, Tilquin, and Girardin as my favorite gueuze. It's a good one.

Amazing beer, the most balanced Gueuze I had so far. Sour but less than some I've had. The mustiness is balanced by the great malt presence. The carbonation is almost perfect with Champagne-like bubbles. A world-class brew.

I picked up a bottle of Drie Fonteinen's Oude Geuze for $23.99 at The Lager Mill. I've been wanting to try this beer for a long time and I'm happy to have the chance to try it, so lets see how it goes. 2015 Vintage. Poured from a green 750ml bottle into a teku.

A- The Label looks nice, it's got a classy look to it and it's a little eye catching. It poured a hazy dark orange color which took on more of a bright orange color when held to the light with just a thin ring of bubbly off white head that quickly faded away and it didn't leave any lacing behind. This is a good looking beer and it's true to style.

S- The aroma starts off with a medium amount of sweetness with a sour sweet tart aroma being the first to show up and it's followed by a nice fruity aroma that's followed by a weird burn rubber like aroma. Up next comes a little bit of an herbal and medicinal like aroma. This beer has a good aroma, but I could go without the weird burnt tire aroma.

T- The taste seems to be similar to the aroma, but it doesn't have the burnt tire aspect this time and it starts off with some sourness being the first to show up and it imparts a lower amount of high sourness with some fruity sweet tart flavors and some funky yeast showing up in the background. Up next comes the malts which impart a little bit of a sweet malt, pale malt, doughy and bready flavor. On the finish there's some lingering sourness with a lingering sour lemon like aftertaste. This is a very nice tasting beer, it's got all the aspects that I expect from the style.

M- Fairly smooth, not too crisp, medium bodied with a lower amount of carbonation. The mouthfeel is good, but I wish it had more carbonation.

Overall I thought this was a very good beer and I thought it was a great example of the style, but there were some parts that made it a little rough around the edges, but when it came to the taste it delivered and that's what matter the most. This beer had nice drinkability, it isn't too acidic and I think one glass would be the perfect amount for me. What I like the most about this beer is the taste, it's very nice and true to style Geuze. What I like the least about this beer is the burn tire aspect in the aroma, it wasn't needed, but at least it didn't show up in the taste. I would buy this beer again, but it isn't something I would stock up and I would recommend ti to anyone who really likes the style. All in all I was happy with this beer, it may have not been exactly what I was expecting, but when it came down it to it the taste was right where it needs to be. This made foe a good first impression of this brewery and I'll be on the look out for more of their beer. I'ts not made favorite example of the style, but it's still pretty nice. Good job guys, this is one tasty beer.

The smell classic gueuze : apple cider, oak, champagne, sour citrus and yeasty. However the taste is a lot more complex than most gueuzes (like, say, Hanssens' gueuze). It's a lot less dry than most gueuzes, a round feel, sweeter. It seriously requires the use of all your tastebuds. Sour apple, lemon, oak, then a nice wheaty taste, more like salty wheat crackers or sticks than bread, with an absolutely unexpected spicy, herbal finish. The one I have is from 2014 hence only 2 years old. So young, and no unpleasant tartness to it. Having this much complexity and elegance in a 5 € beer, I.E. the price of a Scandinavian IPA here in France, is just amazing. And you don't even have to be careful and keep it in the fridge. Cantillon and Drie Fonteinen are real craftsmen and top of the line when it comes to sour beers.

Pulls no punches in the appearance, bright yellow pour, huge 2" white head that has immense retention.

Hits those gueuze notes in the aroma, sour lemon, mild green apple, french oak.

Taste cranks up the sour, mild sweetness barely perceptible beyond the super dry sour and tart notes. Mouthfeel super dry like I said, very minimal oak impressions, more citrus coming in all the time. Can often be different over the years, but never bad, always great, sometimes just different, always astringent and highly carbonated.

Bottled March 2015, drank feb 2016. Poured from bottle, ZERO carbonation. now im not a carbonation whore, i know things like this happen, so im not taking a ton of points off. Others were more dissapointed.

Flat but amazingly delicious. Perfect geuze flavor with alot of oak. I mean this is what it should be, just sad it was flatter than road kill

Pours a nice hazy coppery Amber color. Aroma is very sour and you get notes of oak. Flavor is very tart with notes of the oak barrels and a nice fermented flavor. Is so tart it's borderline metallic but not bad. Has a very nice mouthfeel. Overall really good.
