Drie Fonteinen Oude Geuze Golden BlendDrie Fonteinen Oude Geuze Golden Blend

Brewed by:
Brouwerij 3 Fonteinen

Style: Gueuze

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
The Golden Blend is made with 4 year old Lambic that accounts for 25 % of it’s contents, the rest of the blend is made up by a "secret" combination of 1, 2 and 3 year old Lambic.

The exact mixture is only known by the master-blender Armand himself.

The name "Golden Blend" is not far away from the truth, in fact, the 4 years of maturation in oak-wooden barrels is making this particular Lambic very expensive.

Due to the "evaporation" through the barrels, only a small percentage of the lambic is left over after 4 years of maturing.

My favorite 3F geuze outside of the super scarce wales. All the factors in perfect balance. Supposedly Golden Doesjel "replaced" this one, but I have yet to find a G.D. bottle that equaled it...

Into 3F stem.

Appearance is an awesome burned gold sporting a huge tan head that settles to nice frothy layer. Bubbles stick to the side of glass when twirled. Starts clear but turns hazy towards the bottom of the bottle. This bottle has been upright undisturbed for well over a year now.

Aroma on this is super funky! Cheese for days, and I mean nice funky artisanal cheeses like Camembert, Roquefort, Comte, and rich Brie's. Musky hay, wet barnyard, and freshly tilled earth come into the picture. And as for the fruity aspects you get strong lemon pulp, fermenting orange juice, nectarine skin, and faint apple notes. Gorgeous aroma.

Taste.... Wow. This is one of the best gueuzes and beers for that matter that I've had. It's gotten better since last time I had it which was well over a year ago. This bottle is from Belgium so not sure if there was "bottle" variation. The funk is all up in the flavor but the fruit character is much juicier than on the nose. You get what you get on the nose except the orange is in the form of bright mandarin, lemon is sweet but mixed with lime, and the nectarine goes deeper than just the skin. Amazing!

Mouthfeel is also top of its game. Nice fluffy carbonation that really helps clean the beer on the finish from all the complex flavors. Heavier light body and very dry. Sports a nice lactic with faint acetic bite.

Overall.... What more can I say!

Pours amber with a lasting head.
Noes shows heaps of funk, elderflower, horseblanket, lemon pith, kumquat, fruit confectionery and orange peel. Amazing.
flavours include elderflower, lemon juice, citrus pith, peach and a big, bold acidity. Lots of funk.
Nice high carbonation.
