Style: Gueuze

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
The Golden Blend is made with 4 year old Lambic that accounts for 25 % of it’s contents, the rest of the blend is made up by a "secret" combination of 1, 2 and 3 year old Lambic.

The exact mixture is only known by the master-blender Armand himself.

The name "Golden Blend" is not far away from the truth, in fact, the 4 years of maturation in oak-wooden barrels is making this particular Lambic very expensive.

Due to the "evaporation" through the barrels, only a small percentage of the lambic is left over after 4 years of maturing.

Pours orange, with a surprisingly long lasting foamy head. Moderately high carb.
Smell is super unique and quite intense - earthy Muscat grapes, sesame crackers, celery salt, diesel and a bit of dried onion.
Taste is bright and sour - very Muscat-grape forward, with none of the strong cracker and herb aromas. Some sweet fruitiness - lemon, green grape, maybe a bit of sharp cheddar on the back of the tongue.
Overall one of the most intense gueuzes I've ever tried - unique and delicious, though some of the aromatics were a bit off-putting. I'm not sure if the bottle might've been a bit skunked or something.

2014 vintage (March)
-Dark orange flesh, hazy, with streaming bubbles. Fluffy head taking up half the glass.
-Stone fruits, oak, lemon, pepper, pear, brett.
-Tart fruitiness upfront with dry oak notes playing in the background. Stonefruits shine.
-Pleasant carbonation coats the palate.
As a person that's just getting into sour/tart offerings, I can definitely see myself enjoying these on hot summer days. Even if it means dropping $30 for 375ml bottles.

We've compared a bottle of this one with Cantillon, and the difference was incredible. I like Cantillon Gueuze very much and I find it one of the best beers out there, but this is even better and more complex. Definitively funkier and moldier than any gueuze I've tried. Possibly the best beer I've had so far.
