Thanks to Acropora for sharing this one at his tasting.

Bottled 12/23/11. Best by 12/23/21.

Pours a murky dark red with a foamy reddish-white head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is sour with malt, cherry, funk, wood, and acidic aromas. Taste is much the same with sour cherry, funk, and wood flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of acidity on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp and dry mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with a great sour cherry presence all around.

I am not sure if this is different than the other Schaerbeekse Kriek, but they have different labels, so they must be?

Bottled Oct 17, 2008. Consumed December 2016.

This beer reminds me a lot like the Schaerbeekse Kriek I had many years ago. Vibrant ruby red. White head.

Big cherries. Sweet. Tannins and medicinal notes. Maybe a bit of minerals. This is exactly how I remember it being, medicinal. More funky with some age on it. Barnyard horseblanket still here. Some brett showing.

This would be a great beer if the medicinal/tannin flavors weren't so prominent.

October 2008 Vintage. Strongly colored from the cherries but it has a murky, dark garnet color which isn't the most appetizing. Minimal carbonation and no real head or lacing. The cherries have surely mellowed over time but they're still very much present and seem to have a more earthy flavor, presumably from the addition of the Schaerbeekse cherries. Acidity is very strong and it's quite puckering at times but never gets over the top. A nice beer but it didn't quite live up to my expectations.

Vibrant garnet with a thin, white, slightly pink blanket.

Smell is really strong funk, horse blanket and cherry.

Taste is really smooth cherry pie filling, fresh cherry skin, with light vanilla and cinnamon running in the background.

Very dry.

Poured into a tulip. Vintage of 25/04/2011 with a best before of 04/2016. This is the van schaerbeekse krieken version.

3.5 A: Well hazed cherry plum color. Just about a finger of frothy pink head. Retention isn't great and no lacing is left.

4.5 S: Big, bold tart cherry - very welcoming. Like most 3F brews, this has a minimal acetic sourness and plenty of funk. Tangy fruity funk from lactic acid, musty basement, sweat socks, dry dusty wood planks. Light mixed berry noes underneath. Oak with a touch of vanilla. Touch of garbage-like funkiness to round this out. Very complex in the funk department and great interplay with the cherry. I guess I could use a little more sourness, but I'd take this any day over Cantillon's ass-puckering sourness.

4.5 T: The taste gives a nice tart punch that wasn't present in the nose. There's also more acetic sourness that I would have expected if you know what I mean when I differentiate between tartness and sourness. Cherry is definitely a big part of the taste and is quite potent. Just enough sweetness to balance the sourness. The funk, however, either isn't as strong as in the nose or is just hidden behind the rising components of the taste. However, the funk is still easily detectable and adds to the complexity quite a bit, it just isn't as strong as in the nose. Musty basement, apple orchard, sweat socks, and dry wood. Oak with plenty of vanilla. Very nice.

3.5 M: Lighter medium body. Carbonation is on the lower end, but is fine. The issue I have is that the carbonation isn't very spritzy, which is something I like in these sort of styles. Light creaminess. Super smooth.

4.0 D: Another quality beer from 3F. A funk lovers kriek to be sure.
