Poured from a 12.7 bottle into a 3F tumbler. Acquired in a trade.

Well, the appearance certainly matches it's name. Pours a deep maroon, cherry colored opaque body with a big fizzy "intense red" head that reduces rapidly to leave very little retention and no lacing. I've never seen a beer quite so red!

Big cherry aromas emanate from the glass - definitely get some sourness in there too, lactic tartness and a definite mustyness characteristic of belgian lambics. Very fruity, very sour.

I let this one warm to room temperature over the course of sipping it. It gets more sour and the cherry gets more pronounced once it's warmed up. From the start though, strong lactic sour cherry, fruit skins which impart a drying tannic character, musty basement, light oak, finished by a dry sourness that sits on the tongue.

The mouthfeel is beautifully refreshing.. I had to resist the urge to gulp down the whole thing upon opening it. Medium carbonation, medium-light body.

Overall just as described, although honestly I was expecting more "in your face" cherry with this beer. Instead it was nicely balanced and pretty dry and acidic. Very nice.

Red? Yeah this is red, the pour the head, all red. Fake sugars and flavorings are coming to mind. This doesn't look good at all.

Smell of sour cherries. Nothing else.

All doubts are gone with a taste. Deep dark powerful cherry flavor. A lot of sour notes, wonderful.

Refreshing beyond words, so great. You could drink this everyday if you could afford and justify.

This is a great beer despite some failings.

Poured down the center of a snifter giving way to a deep red body with a thin pink head that sticks around pretty well.

Full on cherry aroma that still allows some subtle complexity to come through. A slight sweetness from all those cherries brings on almost a cherry pie like aroma, red wine, vanilla, some of the souring.

Lots of cherry comes through on the taste as is to be expected. Sour and musty lambic characteristics. Red wine like vinousness.

The carbonation is somewhat subdued leaving a light tingle as the light er bodied lambic goes down smoothly. Light tartness that reverberates through the jaw.

375 mL bottle ordered from I can't remember where. Barely audible pop removing cork.

Beautiful pour. Hazed dark blood red color with an iridescent dark pink head from a hard pour. Aroma is pure cherry flesh, slightly tart, light vanilla, graham cracker by cherry pie association; sweet and fruity but not particularly "lambic"-y. Flavor is fairly sweet to start; fresh cherry pulp and skin with a light sour finish. Some acidic and doughy notes linger in finish. Medium thick body with very soft carbonation. From the color and aroma I'd guess this almost has too much fruit? I'd expect trying this again in event just a few months might be a much different/enjoyable experience, but fresh this is disappointment lacking much depth, complexity, acidity or just all around, good ol' lambic ness.

375ml into a 3F taster glass.

A: Pours a gorgeous, rich garnet color with a slightly pink head. One of the most beautiful beers I've seen.

S: Nose brings aromatic cherry flesh, potent brett muskiness, wet hay, lactic and a bit of acetic acid, some oaky notes.

T: Taste brings dry horseblanket, mild cherry sweetness, moderate fruity tartness, some drying oak tannins, a hint of wheat and hard water minerality. Very dry.

M: Light-bodied with zingy carbonation.

O: A beautiful-looking beer with a potently funky nose, a very mild fruit character, and a surprisingly moderate acidity level on the palate. Certainly not my favorite kriek ever, but definitely enjoyable.

Consumed 8/30/13

Cheers to Goblinmunkey7 for sharing this gem

Appearance: Rich, deep purple with some light 'urple highlights - nice clarity - pours with a creamy pink head, fades to a couple wisps of a cap, leaves a few streaks of lacing

Smell: Rich, tart cherries and some sour - big cherry component, tart and fleshy, with loads of cherry skin - juicy and acetic sourness - funky, musty, with some wood and earthy notes

Taste: Nicely sour cherries and some wood - very tart cherries, cherry flesh, cherry skin - sharp, acidic sourness, about average sourness for the style - earthy, with some musty funk, with some wood - finishes with some wood and acidity

Mouthfeel: Medium body, very smooth but could be smooth, nice carbonation

Overall: Moderate Purple

I know I've been spoiled by some other sours because I wouldn't necessarily describe this as "intense." It is very tasty though. I would be happy to drink it again.

Bottle from Julio's. Bottled 13 Nov 2012, making this almost two and a half years old.

A Deep red, intensely so, with a pink head that falls off rapidly leaving nothing, this looks solid. The nose has a deep fruity, leathery sour cherry character, both bright and brooding, a beautiful funk with earth, mushrooms and barnyard, a little bit of a cherry pit vanillin character, a faint acetic note, a moderate lemony lambic base. This is deep and complex. A fleshy fruitiness of ripe Bing cherries is present along with the sourness of the Schaerbeekse cherries. Awesome.

The palate opens quite pronouncedly sour, lactic and lemony with a leathery sour cherry character being most noticeable up front. This then yields to a fruity mid-palate with plenty of cherry flavor ranging from the bright tartness of sour cherries to the floral and fruity complexities of the sweeter varietals. Funk in the form of earth and barnyard are present. Drying, faintly sweet and very tart on the finish, this is very enjoyable. A faint oiliness is present, a heft from the cherries that isn't present in a regular kriek (including the Lou Pepe) adds a unique dimension to this beer. It does, however, get in the way of the lemony base lambic and the tannins from firming up on the finish , leaving it just a little watery instead. All said, though, this is a marvelous beer, though maybe not worth the $24 or so it goes for retail.

Bottle shared at the RateBeer Gallery event in SF. Pours deep cranberry red with very little head. This beer is ridiculous. Absurd cherry pie aroma and flavor, complete with cinnamon, brown sugar, nutmeg. Tart but not really sour. Literally a beer expression of eating cherry pie or cobbler or something. So goooddd. The grown-up real Belgian version of NG Wisconsin Belgian Red.

Deep purple red color with a small reddish pink head that dissipates almost instantly. Vinous sweet and tart cherry dominates the nose. Light tart and a hint of musty barn round it out. The flavor is pretty sweet for a sour. Big tart and sweet cherry flavor a bit vinous with hints of funk and tart. I enjoyed this, but I'm a big fan of cherries in general.
