750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 5/28/2015. Pours slightly hazy deep ruby red color with a 1-2 finger fairly foamy and fluffy pink head with good retention, that reduces to a thin spotty lace cap that lingers. Slight spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tart/tangy cherries, cherry pits, almond, fruit skin, raspberry, lemon, green apple, red grape, hay, straw, grass, toasted oak, wheat, cracker, and biscuit; with light notes of leathery/musty funk, pepper, red wine vinegar, vanilla, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of cherries, fruity/earthy/funky yeast, oak barrel, and bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tart/tangy cherries, cherry pits, almond, fruit skin, raspberry, lemon, green apple, red grape, hay, straw, grass, toasted oak, wheat, cracker, and biscuit; with light notes of leathery/musty funk, pepper, red wine vinegar, vanilla, and yeast/oak earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tartness; with light fruit tang and yeast/oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart/tangy cherries, cherry pits, almond, fruit skin, raspberry, lemon, green apple, red grape, hay, straw, grass, toasted oak, wheat, cracker, biscuit, light funk/vinegar, pepper, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of cherries, fruity/earthy/funky yeast, oak barrel, and bready malt flavors; with an awesome malt/tartness balance, and zero puckering flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from tartness, spiciness, and fruit tang. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy, fairly crisp/acidic, and lightly tangy/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is awesome. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 6%. Overall this is a fantastic Kriek lambic! All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of cherries, fruity/earthy/funky yeast, oak barrel, and bready malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink with the mellowly acidic/tannic/drying finish. More of a balanced Kriek, but still has a lot of nice wild complexity and oak presence; with huge amounts of cherry fruit character. A highly enjoyable offering.

Pours a deep plum color, incredibly vibrant carbonation to the point it mists onto your nose as you smell it, or on your hand. I found the aroma to have too strong of a musty oak smell, and the tannins also verge on excess. There is a dark sour cherry aroma, but you have to strain for it, and the sweetness it provides isn't blended well against the earthy yeast and oak.

The taste recovers somewhat, as there is much more expression from those robust dark cherry flavors. It starts with a small sour kiss, and within the body those wood & yeast flavors play more of a supporting role. There is a sweetness but it is never cloying or artifcial. Vinegary tannins poke their head up here and there, but aren't overwhelming and serve as a good contrast to the sweetness. With how vivacious it poured I was surprised to find very little carbonation in the actually body, which was disappointing.

2014 bottle, opened 2017.

Could easily take another 5-10 years. Delicious but still a lot of fruit sugar for the bottle to age on.

2011!

Pours a beautiful light velvet color with no head

Nose picks up sweet/sour, dark cherries, bit of funk

Taste follows the nose with sweet light notes of cherry followed by an abrupt note of sour ending with rich and bright Flavors of dark cherry

I'm not a fan of these types of beers but this was fantastic! Aging really came out

I really have enjoyed this beer, which is unfortunate because damn if it ain't one of the most expensive beers per oz around.

Pours a brilliant red hue. I'm going, damn that's a lot of cherry, is this 3F version of LPK type of "intense" cherry thing going for it? The red color leads to a very pink head about 3/4" deep. A thing of beauty as they say. Nose is tons of cherry. Any other notes are in the background and merely complementary at best, but I think it is pretty clean in terms of cheese/barnyard/wet dog feels.

The taste is pungent cherry and sourness. Seems like it has a blend of different cherries, there is the lighter more sour variety, but also a deeper chewier darker cherry vibe and pie underneath it. Carbonation makes for a nice mouth feel, didn't find it to be hardly acidic at all. Mild funk oak in the mix. A very well made beer, but damn if that price doesn't keep me from ever buying multiples of it.

I picked up a bottle of Drie Fonteinen's Intense Red Oude Kriek 2015 last year at The Lager Mill for $40.99. Since I've mad it to 1800 reviews I thought I would pull out something special from the cellar and I'm interested to see if this one lives up to the price, so lets see how it goes. 2015 Vintage. Poured from a green corked and caged 750ml bottle into a teku.

A- The label looks good, it's got a nice design to it and it's a little eye catching. It poured a deep dark red that was almost maroon and it took on more of a ruby red color when held to the light with a little over a fingers worth of slightly creamy pink head that died down to a thin ring that eventually faded away and it left some nice patchy rings of lacing behind. This is a very nice looking Kriek, I have no complaints.

S- The aroma starts off with a higher amount of medium sweetness with the cherries being the first to show up and they impart a big and complex cherry aroma with some natural cherry juice and a noticeable fermented cherry aroma with some other fruit aromas showing up in the background with a slight medicinal aroma. Up next comes a little bit of funky yeast with a noticeable sour aroma. This beer has a very nice aroma, it's what I would expect from the style.

T- The taste seems to be similar to the aroma and it starts off with a higher amount of medium sweetness with the cherries still being the first to show up and it imparts all the same aspects that it did in the aroma and it's followed by a nice woody oak aroma that's a little funky and it goes into the funky yeast aroma which is a little more noticeable than it was in the aroma. On the finish there's a little more sweetness with a higher amount of medium sourness and it has a nice cherry juice, oak and funky yeast aftertaste. This is a very nice tasting beer, it's well balanced and has just enough complexity.

M- Pretty smooth, a little refreshing. a little clean, slightly mouth puckering, medium bodied with a medium amount of carbonation. The mouthfeel is very nice and it works well with this beer.

Overall I thought this was a very nice beer and a very nice example of kriek, but I've had some that were half the price and just as good so I don't think it lived up to it's price tag, but it's still a very nice beer. This beer had nice drinkability, I could drink a couple glasses since it's not overly sour. What I like the most about this beer is how true to style it is and that it's not overly sweet. What I like the least about this beer is that it didn't have just a little more dunk and complex taste to it. I don't think i would buy this beer again for the same price and I wouldn't turn down a glass at all. I recommend trying, it, but I don't think it's worth $41 to try it. All in all I enjoyed this beer, but I was hoping for just a little more out of it to make it a great example of the style. It's one of the better beers I've had from this brewery and it;s a very nice example of the style. Good job guys, this is one tasty, but very expensive beer.

Pink head. Ruby purple color.

Tons of cherry pie flavor. Sweet cherry. Not tart. Not funky. Not too sour. This reminds me more of an American wild than a lambic. It's good, but just not 3F lambic good. Just too fruity and sweet.

An intense wave of dark cherries straight from the get-go. It's almost like the smell you get from left over refrigerated cherry pie once you let it sit and reach an edible temperature, if that pie were cooked and fermented with sour producing bacteria. Hints of the 3 Fonteinen basement and muddy earth mushroom funk follows. There's even some dark fruit (plum) toward the back as it warms up.

Sour, cherries, sour, cherries, and then some more cherries. Some vinous grape skin-like qualities also emerge accompanied with a wave of the 3 Fonteinen funk and oak, but otherwise it's intensely cherry. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I did kind of highlight "sour" as one of the main characters in terms of taste, but the acidity is very nicely curtailed by a well-rounded sweetness; I'm assuming it's from the cherries given that this brew is supposedly 40% cherries, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was some other ingredient that was added to achieve this balance.

Medium-full bodied with low-ish carbonation. I seldom ever use this descriptor for lambics of any sort but this one is actually quite chewy. Intensely cherry, intensely oaky, intensely 3F.
