300 Mosaic India Pale Ale300 Mosaic India Pale Ale
Notes: Formerly Batch 300

Originally brewed as a one-off in celebration of the 300th batch at our original downtown Minneapolis brewery, this West Coast IPA was so well received we had to make it available year-round. It's built on a base of Pilsner malt and heavily hopped with Mosaic, one of our favorite -- and unfortunately nearly impossible to procure -- hop varieties. At 74 IBU and 7% ABV, 300 is pure hop candy.

Appearance: Pours a beautiful, deep, amber, bronze, and orange color. Slightly opaque. A medium, off-white head that fades quickly. SRM of 16. (4.25)

Aroma: Aromas of deep, dank, and sweet melon and pineapple. Some peach, guava, and mango. A strong malt profile of caramel and toffee backbone. (4.0)

Flavor: Flavor follows the nose with pineapple, peach, mango, grapefruit, papaya. Not too tropical as it has some peach and pineapple notes. The deep and sweet fruit convey as slight artificial flavor like sharpie which is offputting. But it's very subtle. Then it's followed by a pale, caramel, and toffee malt profile. I'm getting more than a pilsner malt. A moderate pithy bitterness follows. No black tea or berry from the mosaic. Finishes rather balanced, but leans sweet with the malt profile. (4.0)

Feel: Medium to heavy bodied. Moderate carbonation. A little sticky and syrupy, but not overwhelming. Leans sweeter, but still a moderate pithy bitterness is left on the palate. (3.75)

Overall: A pretty good mosaic IPA. It's a mosaic hops with a rich midwest malt twist of caramel and toffee. Often times mosaic beers have a bitter black tea and berry finish, but this one is straight mosaic tropical fruit with a nice caramel malt profile. It reminds me of a mosaic version of Furious or Two-Hearted. Lacking a little on the body. Overall, a very delicious and highly rated beer. (Final Rating 3.96)

My good friend and old neighbor gave me a bottle of this beer. It poured a hazy yellow with white head that is leaving a nice lace. The scent had mild bitter hop. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with bitter pine start and citrus finish. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall its a solid beer.

Poured from 12 oz bottle into shaker pint glass.
A: Pours a nice clear deeper golden hue with 1/2 white head that fairly quickly settles to a thin skim.
S: Sweet grapefruit, soft orange, and dry cracker malt.
T: Tart and bitter grapefruit, soft orange and tangerine, hints of lemon and lime with a dry cracker malt backbone.
M: Light body. Nice and crisp with moderate bitterness and soft citrus sweetness. The bitterness and dry cracker malt linger into the finish.
D: Refreshing brew on a warm day! Solid session beer.

Decided to be adventurous and bought a 4 pack of this from Weis in the poconos while on vacation. Was not impresses with this beer at all and not sure how it received a rating over 4. I checked under the can and it was dated a year prior, not sure if that played a role? Taste is identical to Founders Centennial IPA which you can buy a 15 pack for about $20.

Fulton Beer "300 Mosaic India Pale Ale"
one pint can, "Canned on 2018-03-20 10:27"
$4.29 @ ABC Fine Wine & Spirits #139, Wildwood, FL

Look: Very hazy, almost cloudy, orange body beneath a finger-thick head of off-white foam that holds well and leaves some very nice lacing behind.

Smell: Tropical fruit, soft pine, and sweetish golden malt.

Taste: As the aroma suggests, golden malt with a light bit of caramel acts as the base for piney and tropical hops (candied orange, mango, lemon zest). The berry notes that are normally found in Mosaic hops are missing but that's OK. A solid bitterness backs it and brings it to a dry conclusion with tropical/piney hops and a spritz of alcohol lingering.

Feel: Firmly medium bodied and crisp.

Overall: A solid West coast style IPA.

From the tall boy can in a snifter. This mighty fine IPA pours a
medium dark chill hazed amber with a fantastic head of off white foam
that subsides to a big thick ring, thick fluffy layer, and shows exceptional
lacing. Nose of heavy pine with a touch of tropical fruit of pineapple and
mild caramel malts. Flavors follow the nose perfectly with a solid caramel
malt backbone against a backdrop of pine and touches of citrus and subtle
white grape notes. Very nice mouth feel; medium body, medium light
fluffy carbonation, and a bitter pine finish that is lightly dry.

Overall, a SOLID brew from a solid brewery.

16oz can into a pint glass. Canned 1/23/18, so another 9 month old Fulton beer in PA (just had Hopstar)

Slightly hazy yellow body, a slightly syrupy pour. Small white head with light lacing. Some small streams of carbonation

There is a faint boiled candy aroma.

And a slightly candy sweet taste. A faint hop signature comes in toward the end.

Above medium on the mouth, somewhat bittersweet in the finish.

Clearly age has hurt this one. (a similar age Hopstar held up well) Was kinda "warm" for a 7.2abv. Will re-review if a fresher one crosses my path.

16oz can served in a large snifter. Gift from @mr-jj. No visible date.

Looks pretty -- light ruby in color, mostly clear, medium head that fades at a reasonable pace. Moderate to low carbonation. Smell is hops, moderately cilantro smelling.

Taste is moderately tropical, grassy, a little more cilantro.

Mouthfeel is medium, could use a bit more carbonation. Overall, not bad.

Thanks, Sam!

Got this with another 10 from Sam. Had this once before in Wichita, Kan., for a work trip, but didn’t review it since it was so old. Gave it a 4.00 on Untappd on March 14, 2018, writing, “Would like to have (and review) fresh. Wanted it so bad I ignored the Nov. 3 canned on date and purchased anyway. Overrated 4.0 for now.” Sam wrote that he would be able to get this fresh for me and here we are. Online description read, “Originally brewed as a one-off in celebration of the 300th batch at our original Minneapolis brewery, 300 was so well received we had to bring it back every year. It's an IPA built on a base of Weyermann Pilsner malt and heavily hopped from start to finish with Mosaic, one of our favorite -- and unfortunately nearly impossible to find -- hop varieties. At 74 IBU and just under 7% ABV, 300 is pure hop candy and brewed in only a small quantity each year, so get it while you can.”

Poured a light amber semi-clear color with three fingers of frothy off-white head. Lots of bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass at a fast speed. World-class foamy layered lacing. World-class foamy retention. (Sight - 4.50)

Smelled Mosaic, floral, tangerine, nectarine, viney berry, grass, melon, pineapple, candied tropical notes, mango and guava. More Mosaic, mango and guava from the can, and even that pilsner malt. (Smell - 4.00)

Taste followed the nose for the most part. Mosaic obviously led the way, but certainly got that earthy pilsner malt as well. Also viney berry, grass, mango, guava, rose blossom, nectarine, tangerine, melon, red grapefruit, grain and tropical dank. (Taste - 4.00)

Medium body. Oily-to-creamy texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt, bitter finish. (Feel - 4.00)

Probably not as good as I hoped it would be, but still outstanding. (Overall - 4.00)

16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 3/20/2018. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy deep golden amber/light orange color with a 2 finger fairly dense and rocky off white head with awesome retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, papaya, mango, melon, guava, blueberry, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, pine, cracker, toasted biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, papaya, mango, melon, guava, blueberry, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, pine, cracker, toasted biscuit, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pineapple, papaya, mango, melon, guava, blueberry, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, pine, cracker, toasted biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy/sticky, and fairly crisp/resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 7%. Overall this is a delicious IPA. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and easy to drink with the modestly bitter/drying finish, not overly aggressive. Spot on Mosaic showcase as expected. Very juicy, vibrant, dank, and earthy balanced hop complexity; nice bready pale malt backbone, with mild residual sweetness. Very well balanced and well made "Midwest" style. A very enjoyable offering.

16 oz can poured into a pint glass. Clear orange, white head. Sticky lacing. Sweet citrus and malt on the nose and palate. Orange, melon, papaya, touch of pine. Slightly sweet malt backbone. Semi-dry finish. Great balance with subtle bitterness. Medium bodied and an easy drink. My first experience with Fulton and a pleasurable one. Nice use of Mosaic hops. Will revisit again soon. Recommended.

Taste is citrus, some pine, malts are present, dry, moderate bitterness. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is a decent beer.

Had on tap at Butcher and the Boar. The beer had a slight amber appearance but mostly orange gold with a thick bubbly head. Aromas included an orange peel zest with a sweet, maybe a little honey, grapefruit and orange flavor. Mouthfeel is silky and lightly creamy. Great beer with excellent aromas,

Canned on 2/28/18. 16oz can poured into a tulip. Pours golden with nice clarity and has bubbles racing upwards; big fluffy off-white head that slowly falls leaving great thick retention and sticky frothy lacing. The aromas have exactly what you would expect from mosaic hops. There's also some black pepper and orange cream in the mix. Malts are there. The flavors follow the nose. Some pineapple, peach and orange lead the way. Subtle spiciness in the finish. Really nice hop flavors along with a moderate bitterness. Malts do their thing. Finishes juicy. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied with moderate carbonation. It's very fluffy, smooth and easy to drink.

This is a really nice IPA. Nice use of mosaic hops.

Pours a foggy, hazy burnt-orange with a finger of white head. Head retention is good with great lacing left behind. Aroma is citrus, tangerine, and melon. Flavor profile is melon, tangerine, and papaya with biscuit, and bread malts. Mouth feel is medium in thickness with an effervescent, fuzzy feeling in a medium thickness. Overall, a fair IPA with a good balance of hops and malts.

Served in a 12oz snifter from a 16oz can.

Poured from 16oz tall can into a dimpled mug. Canned 12/20/17.

Appearance: medium orange hue with a moderate haze. Head poured two thick fingers of frothy ivory foam, though I think that was due to an overexuberant pour. Still, an attractive beer.

Smell: herbal, earthy and sweet aroma; not overly complex, but nice enough.

Taste: dank, earthy hops with a good freshness and some almost-grassy character. The aroma did not hint at the great, dank hop character that the flavor would offer here. Bitterness is in line more with a West Coast IPA than the more hazy variety, in that it is pretty strong. This is a damn fine beer.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation and creaminess. Not bad.

Overall: while not perfect, this is a fine IPA indeed. The flavor really packs a punch.

Pours a clear light orange with two fingers of soapy white head, settles to a thin cap, trails a few dots of lace. Smell: melon, papaya, citrus note, buttered whole grain biscuit, notes of apricot and toffee. Taste: half-ripe papaya, melon, berry skin, grapefruit, grassy, with the backdrop again toffee and a bit buttery. Canned 2018-01-23. Certainly does not come off as "Pils malt + Mosaic" and the grain bill seems to be fighting the Mosaic rather than working harmoniously, or maybe it's just the buttery aspect. Still fairly tasty, though there are far more coherent Mosaic-bombs available.

Canned 1/23. This a magnificent mosaic showcase. Up front I tasted bountiful, fresh tasting, sticky sweet tropical fruits. The finish brings a pleasantly biting citrus rind note and some tingly pine. This liquid hop candy goes down quick and easy. Highly recommended .

16 oz Speigelau IPA glass. Pours almost clear, with an orange tinged color.
Aroma is pure mosaic citrus, and malt base. Taste is citrus, and malt, but very balanced. Light to medium, carbonation is present, but not overdone. Mid level bitterness, but just like the carbonation, not overdone. A very tasty beer.

Poured into a Duvel tulip.

Opaque light burnt orange body with light khaki head that leaves a collar and light film, light lines of lacing.

Aroma is pure tropical notes of mango, pineapple, apricot.

Tastes just as fruity as the aroma with excellent juicy mango, apricot, and pineapple with light cedar wood in the finish.

Mouthfeel is medium and slightly dry.

Overall, this is absolutely gorgeous in its fruity notes and for 74 IBU there is little bitterness.

I spent New Beer Sunday (Week 668), which was yesterday, deeply immersed in Fulton Beer's beers from MPLS MINN. Here in PA, we get distro from seemingly everywhere & it is tough to keep up with all of the newest releases. It is even more spectacular that they are coming to us in CANs for the furtherance of The CANQuest (tm). Let the fun CANtinue! I ran out of steam at the end of the day yesterday so I am picking up where I left off.

From the CAN: "Created to commemorate our 300th batch. Became a legend. Now 300 IPA is back and it's here to stay."

The Crack! was nice & loud, but I am going back to my resolution to only CANduct a gentle Glug unless the style warrants otherwise. In this case, it foamed up on its own to create a finger of fluffy, foamy, tawny head with good retention. Color was solid Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9) with NE-quality clarity. Nose had a distinct tropical fruitiness (mango, papaya, guava) along with citrusy grapefruit & orange as well as some pine thrown in for good measure. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was riotously hoppy without being overly bitter (CAN read: "74 IBU") and the tropical fruitiness kind of led the way before the citrus and pine just seemed to explode in a riotous way. Phew! I was really digging this one, I CAN assure you. Finish was dry, dank and juicy. Mmm. This is one way to my hophead heart!

On tap from the beer stop. Brought a crawler home.

L: pours a golden color and settles quickly to a darker orange than many IPAs. Fine white head. Minimal lacing. Color preps me for something different.

S: interesting hops. More maltiness than normal and an orange / citrus blended in.

T: so the taste jumps out a bit. The hops are present and delicious, there is something unique about them. They are less bitter, yet still portray that grass filled field taste well. The citrus on top adds a bitter touch as well. You can tell the citrus adds a separate bite. Then there is a malt taste from the pilsner blend that stands out. This is a unique and enjoyable IPA.

F: easy on the palate. Bitterness fades out at a pleasant rate. Good aftertaste.

O: This is worth a few visits. Well executed. Not the strongest, most bitter IPA ever, but delicious, drinkable, and enjoyable throughout.
