BEER INFO

Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND, PERMANENTLY

Originally brewed as a one-off in celebration of the 300th batch at our original downtown Minneapolis brewery, this West Coast IPA was so well received we had to make it available year-round. It's built on a base of Pilsner malt and heavily hopped with Mosaic, one of our favorite -- and unfortunately nearly impossible to procure -- hop varieties. At 74 IBU and 7% ABV, 300 is pure hop candy.

12oz bottle of the Garage Series release. Served in a snifter glass.

Pours a clear, darker copper-orange body, two finger effervescent offwhite head with good retention. Nice splotchy lacing. Smells of citrus and passion fruit, sweet grainy toffee. For the most part, nice hoppy aroma and pleasant. This beer ratchets things up quite a bit on the palate, though. Very nice grapefruit and passion fruit with sweet toffee in the background, a bit of graininess. It's very nicely balanced with a solid tropical fruit bitterness on the backend. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, solid carbonation, with a moderate grapefruit bitterness on the backend. Overall, a very more than solid single hop IPA that is quite balanced. Mosaic is expressed fairly well here with a nice bitterness to round things out.

Pours from the bottle a hazy orange-amber with a compact and foamy white head. The aroma is citrus pineapple, pine, peach and a slight bread y note. Taste is big and bold. Pine and citrus with tropical and stone fruit notes. A big, resinous finish that lingers. Good balancing malt. It's medium bodied, chewy and dry.

Wow, what a showcase for Mosaic hops. Great mix of tropical, berry and citrus notes, with loads of hop oils. The aroma is similar to the taste, but the hop oils mute some of the tropical notes. Medium to full body that is very oily with a dry, bitter finish. Somewhat similar to Todd the Axe Man. Great beer overall but maybe a titch overwhelming.

Pours a clear honey gold colour. Smells like heavy citrus hops, pine resin, and slightly sweet malts. Tastes like citrus hops, pine resin, and has a nice bitterness. Not too heavy, surprisingly crisp.

L: Pours brilliant gold amber under a 2” sticky cream colored foam cap that takes 4 minutes to recede to 1/3 its original size.
S: Tropical fruit and bread crumb.
T: Big bold tropical fruit flavors over a biscuit background with a light fruity-malty sweetness and a balancing mild hop finish.
F: Very creamy medium body and carbonation.
O: Very well balanced and very well made.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a chalice.

Appearance: Pours a bright golden orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. Big two finger white head that settles into a thin patchy layer.

Smell: A juicy and earthy hop forward aroma with a scent of citrus fruit and grass. Upfront hop scent with hints of orange peel, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, apricot, and melon. Floral and earthy hop scent with some hints of grass. Malt hints of caramel, grains, cracker, and yeast. A solid aroma.

Taste: Like the nose hints at, a juicy and earthy hop driven taste with notes of citrus and grass. Big chewy citrus fruit notes of grapefruit, orange peel, apricot, tangerine, lemon, and melon. Good hop notes of grass and pine. Backing malt notes of caramel, cracker, grains, and yeast.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Juicy, chewy, and drying.

Overall: A very good single hop IPA. Nice citrus and grass presence.

We are fortunate to have talented brewers in Minnesota. Fulton was a secondary player to Summit and Surly in the local ranking. This offering solidly puts them in the same stature as Summit and Surly. 300 utilizes a single hop (Mosaic) which adds a new dimension to Minnesota IPAs. It is slightly drier and less sweet than a traditional IPA. Extremely drinkable with a beautiful hop nose and blast of tropical hops to the palate. I love this brew for different reasons that I love Surly's Todd the Axe Man and Summit's 30th Anniversary Double IPA. It is simply fabulous. Well done, boys!
