we are seeing a lot of accomplished craft breweries go back to the basics with beers like this all over the country, and i am a fan of the trend, its nice to have some local, fresh, craft lager, no matter who it was designed for, i think we all crave beer like this once in awhile, something simple and crushable, good with food, light enough but light years better than the macro stuff. this is a cool one, because its a red colored lager without the normal caramel sweetness of the vienna malts that usually color these this way. not sure what grains comprise this one, but the fact that is stays dry all the way even though its got a little color and body is really nice. a slight grassy hop profile and a fresh lager yeast with a fully compatible and not at all irrelevant flavor. great with richer food like a burger and fries, but also nice as a hangover starter upper, as a night cap, or even as a palate cleanser in a session. fulton has proven they can make the big and bold and strong beers all very well, and its nice to see them attack something a little more basic with the same vigor and attention to detail. this is high quality lager, dont be fooled. perfect mouthfeel for the style too!

16 ounce can into lager glass, canned on 3/22/2018. Pours slightly hazy deep golden amber color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty lacing clings in the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of cracker, white bread dough, and toasted biscuit; with light notes of honey, nuttiness, pepper, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with bready malts and light earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of big cracker, white bread dough, and toasted biscuit; with light notes of honey, nuttiness, pepper, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Mild herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of cracker, white bread dough, toasted biscuit, light honey/nutty/pepper, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice robustness of bready malts and light earthy hop flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance, and no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Very clean on lager flavors, with minimal fruity/yeasty notes present. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol for 5.3%. Overall this is a delicious amber lager. All around nice robustness of bready malts and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth and pretty refreshing to drink with the mildly bitter/drying finish. Very flavorful with a sizable body for the ABV. Very clean and rich Pils/Munich malts; with solid earthy hop balance against sweetness. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.

16oz can. Poured out a clear, golden amber color with a small, khaki-colored head of foam. It smelled of caramel and floral notes. Sweet caramel taste with a mild bitter hop bite.

White head. Golden color. Lace left.

Grainy and bready. Earthy hops. Pilsner like. Very clean. Basic, but nice and drinkable.

A great addition to the Fulton lineup. It'd be nice if they canned their Pils, but this will do.

Happy New Cut a Single in Minneapolis, MN Beer Sunday (Week 668)!

As usual, I have a planned theme for today. Here in PA, we get distro from seemingly everywhere & it is tough to keep up with all of the newest releases. It is even more spectacular that they are coming to us in CANs for the furtherance of The CANQuest (tm). Let the fun CANtinue!

From the CAN: "Minn Made"; "Genuine All-Malt Beer"; "Extraordinarily Uncomplicated."

I have known a couple/few Minn maids, so I will toast them following the Crack! Thus acCANplished, I began a nice, slow, easy Glug which still produced a finger of fizzy, foamy, tawny head without any coaxing on my part and with decent retention. Color was a gorgeous solid-Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9) with NE-quality clarity. Nose had that clean smell of biscuity, bready, honeyed malt that always makes me think of fresh biscuits drizzled with honey. Mmm. Standard? I wish! Mouthfeel was medium, big for a Lager. The taste was both honey-sweet and Noble hops-grassy/hay-like. It was a very clean, non-adjunct laden Lager that used to be the Pre-Pro Standard, but is usually NOT the case in this day & age. This was wonderfully tasty & quite quaffable. Finish was semi-dry & highly refreshing. I CAN easily see drinking this one on a hot, humid summer's day. Well done!

I got a can of this off the single shelf at a Kroger just down the road from south metro ice in Dayton,OH. It poured a clear amber with no head and no lace. The scent had faint malt and bitter hop. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall its a good beer.

A thanks to the amazing woodychandler for this beer. Poured from a 16 oz. can. Has a color with a 1 inch head. Smell is of malts, honey, some grains. Taste is the same as the aroma, and highly refreshing. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall would be a great backyard beer during the summertime.

S: medium to medium low spicy, floral hop aromas with a hint of pine seasoning light malt.

L: beautiful, brilliant copper amber with streams of bubbles rapidly rushing to the surface to produce a thin, sudsy white head that rapidly reduces to a film.

T: wide array of malt flavors ranging from doughy bread to light biscuit roll over the tongue. Malt and hop spiciness combine and there is a faint fruit note. It starts with a light sweetness but by mid-palate hop bitterness grows to medium leading to a crisp dry finish and a lingering malty bitter aftertaste.

F: The body is medium to medium light and the carbonation is medium.

O: It is a flavorful, easy to drink lager brewed for those who want more than fizzy yellow beer.

L-deep gold/tan color..good clarity...looks impressive.

S-Slighty spicy aroma with an underlying grainy maltiness..

T-Slighty sweet...light breads and grains...toasty malts like a vienna style

F-Not overcarbonated...easy drinking but with some character...light side of medium bodied..finishes with a just a whisp of dryness.

O-Nice basic malty lager. All-malt lager and it tastes that way. I wonder if this is what lagers tasted like in the old days in the U.S. Well done. Scores are per style. One of my favorite lagers brewed in the states. Much prefer to the hop laden offerings so many places put out.

Update as a I finish off the 12 pack..: At times I get a bit of a spoiled egg flavor and aroma from some bottles. When on this is really good but the off flavors from some bottles in a concern. Interestingly enough it was not all the bottles. Maybe 4 or 5 of them.

Hazed caramel body. Thin off white head leaves a fair amount of lace. Aroma is dusy, grainy, a grain milling room. Flavor is malty and grainy... a little biscuity and a little caramelly. Hops are mostly around for balance but there's a really light peach accent that is adds a nice touch to the whole flavor profile. Very slight dryness on the finish that leaves you wanting another sip. Body is medium-full. Carbonation is even keeled and smooth. Solid lager.

Fulton's Standard Lager pours a clear copper color. The head is a solid cap of white foam that lingers awhile. The aroma has some light caramel, some toasty mat, and a whiff of floral hops. The taste is similar to the aroma, but much more pronounced. The mouthfeel is medium-light bodied with appropriately ample carbonation. Overall, this is a really well made beer. I can see myself drinking this on a very frequent basis.

Type: 16-oz. can
Glass: Clear 15.25-oz. pilsner
From: Goebel Liquor / Rob’s World of Beer in Wichita, Kan.
Price: $7.99 for a 4-pack
Purchased: March 14, 2018
Consumed: March 16, 2018
Reviewed as: American Amber / Red Lager
Misc.: Canned on Aug. 3, 2017 at 1:01 p.m. CT (I think)

Had three of these previous in Wichita on a work trip. Gave them each a 3.5 on Untappd, writing, “Should have looked up this beer before buying it. Detecting blueberry. May review later, but for now back to work.” Well here we are. I was expecting this to be a bit higher than a 3.5 with a full review, but a 3.75 seemed like a 50/50 chance heading in.

Poured a medium amber mostly clear color with three fingers of rocky white head. Lots of bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. Excellent foamy layered spiderweb lacing. Almost perfect retention. (Sight - 4.50)

Smelled Corn Pops, grass, honey, brown bread, biscuit, grain and light blueberry. More of the same from the can, maybe more compact. (Smell - 3.75)

Tasted about as good as the nose, maybe slightly better. Got Corn Pops, honey, grass, hay, brown bread, biscuit, Wheat Thins, grain and hints of blueberry. (Taste - 3.75)

Medium body. Oily texture. Lively carbonation. Abrupt clean finish. (Feel - 4.00)

This was much better than the last few nights out of the can. Just a very good American Amber / Red Lager. (Overall - 3.75)

Nice flavorful full lager. Darker gold to amber and mostly clear. Smallish white head. Rich grainy taste with balancing bitterness & full mouthfeel for style. Not a quick thirst quenched but a slower easy drinker. Is smaller than it feels.

Standard Lager pours a copper color, with a small, but lacing head. Big roasted malty aroma. Taste is smooth and sweet. A nice roasted flavor, on a big malty backbone. Very smooth. Overall, no frills smooth, sweeter and toasty beer.
