Style: Russian Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.50%

Availability: Winter

Notes / Commercial Description:
War & Peace is a Russian Imperial Stout aged with Peace Coffee's Guatemalan Organic Dark Roast. We measure out a pound of whole beans per barrel of beer and add it directly to our tanks, then allow it to infuse for nearly a week. It's a combination so natural, you may forget that stout and coffee once existed without each other.

Big beer of the night, thanks to rudzud for sharing.

Pours a nice big creamy rich dark colored 2 finger head plus thick head, ridiculous lacing everywhere. Pitch black beer with no light coming through.

Nose is very enjoyable, fresh roasted coffee, fluffy nougat, dark cocoa, so much fresh earthy roasted coffee, fudgey like coffee, dark mild charred roasty malt, little caramel, chewy, very well balanced and strong at the same time, fluffy nougat carafa.

Taste brings a mild sweet malt, super dark malt, fluffy nougat carafa, caramel, little candy notes, little marshmallow even. Then fudgey cocoa, chewy fudge and cocoa, plenty of nice coffee, earthy nutty coffee, bright earthy coffee, mild bitterness from roasted malt and mild earthy hops. Nice fresh coffee overall, smooth rich coffee. Nice dark mild roasty malts, dark fudgey cocoa malts, plenty of ris in there, typical anise ris notes. Finish is drier, lingering toasted malt notes, fudgey cocoa, and plenty of fresh roasted coffee.

Mouth is med to fuller bod, no real booze, decent carb.

Overall very nice, great fresh coffee but still keeps the awesome base ris beer in tact just added nice fresh coffee.

Brought to Concert #3 of Fare Thee Well by Jim. Many thanks.
Worthy Adversary with coffee. And boy is there coffee. It masks, somewhat but more than necessary, the RIS. Better blending as it warms. The coffee flavors and aroma are nice. Like freshly ground coffee. Smooth drinking with an average mouthfeel - not quite soft or big enough, but nice. Good blending overall

Shared with JLindros.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark oily black with a fat mocha head that fades to leave nice lacing and creamy blanket.

S - Aromas of nice dark fruits, roast malts, strong decent quality coffee, chocolate, good aromas, no booze really.

T - Taste is similar to the nose, loads of dark fruits, licorice, char, roast malts, really good coffee notes. Rich and earthy, nutty coffee. Very rich.

M - Mouthfeel is nicely creamy, lightly carbonated. Smooth, silky.

O - Overall this beer was really tasty, loads of coffee. Quite good. Big surprise!

Dark and black, as any stout should be. Minimal head that dissolves quickly but leaves a ring of carbonation and surface bubbles until the last drop.

Whoa boy is this loaded with coffee. Freshly ground. Brownies. Very robust aroma.

The flavor is loaded with coffee. Iced mocha. Coffee and fudge.

Thick and creamy, moderate carbonation.

It's an amazing beer. If you like coffee stouts (I mean, how could you not,) this is one worth seeking out. It's not overly complex but the coffee/chocolate combo is executed perfectly.

This beer pours a jet black color with a thick and fluffy brown head. The head fades slowly, leaving a nice lace.

This beer smells of, you guessed it, coffee. I get dark fruit as well. Dogs and plumbs. Some sweet caramel and molasses also.

This beer tastes the same as it smells. Coffee and sweet caramel. Some roasted malt flavor.

This beer is surprisingly smooth for its 9.5% ABV. It leaves a fresh coffee aftertaste.

Overall, this beer is great! Thanks to Sarah for it. Probably one of the best beer I have had recently.

Appearance: Gloopy! Heavy! Glugs out a jet black body with a thin, beige head that was a little hard to scare up being a few centimeters.

Smell: W+P is loaded with richly roasty, coffee aromas, backed by dark chocolate, molasses and a bit of sweet caramel with lighter touches of dark fruit, alcohol and ground spice.

Taste: Deeply roasty with bright coffee flavors, bitterish dark chocolate and sulphured molasses. Some dark fruitiness present, a little spicy anise. Underlying bitterness beneath the dense maltiness. Touch of alcohol. Drying, bitterish, chocolaty finish.

Mouthfeel: Full-bodied. Medium-light carbonation. Damnably chewy mouthfeel.

Overall: From the get-go, this one looked like it was right up my alley and it was.
