on-tap @ Belmont Station.
form notes.

Pale yellow with a thin white head. Some lacing.

Brett and lacto tartness, with the lacto taking a slight edge over the brett.

Crisp, tart notes. Lightly citric, lemony and grassy notes blend with the tartness.

Medium body with light prickly carbonation.

Easy drinking, well done sour beer. Nothing too spectacular overall.

Some of this was left over after the Fourth Anniversary party at Bailey's Taproom, so I luckily got to try some a few days afterward. Pours a cloudy golden color, topped by a fleeting bit of creamy white head that was gone by the time I got back to my table. Aroma is sweet and citrusy, with some real lemon zing and a touch of sweet vanilla(?).
Palate is tart and citrusy up front. Notes of sweet pale malt and vanilla (presumably from the bourbon barrel) are also present. kind of a strange blend of flavors. Finish is tart, but not pucker-inducing. Body is lively and just a touch creamy; I would prefer it to be a bit drier, but hey, what can you do? Interesting, for sure, but maybe not the best representation of Flat Tail's barrel-aging prowess.

100% barrel fermented. On draught at The Bier Stein, Flat Tail's 1st anniversary ale is murky straw yellow, like a wit beer, which I love. White head is small, leaving no lace.

Smell is sweet citrus, lemonade like really.

Taste is also on the lemon notes, like a radler, but with some pucker. IIRC, the brewer said it was a mix of bourbon and pinot barrels. Not much pucker, just some lingering brett funk on the aftertaste, but mostly the bretty cherry pie / pineapple notes (brett b + c)

Mouthfeel is slick and light bodied.

Drinkability is good, a fruity wild ale, refreshing but not overly sour.

Cloudy, very pale golden colour with a small but relatively long lasting white head. Good.

Lightly tart and quite peachy with nice berry notes that come out later in the glass. Good.

Smooth, light tartness with a solid fruity character. Nicely balanced and easy enough to drink.

Medium-light body with moderate carbonation. Good.

A nice, tart ale with good fruity character and an interesting flavour profile. I like what is going on here.
