Appearance - ruby brown with a persistent creamy head.

Smell - Caramelized sugar and ripe plums, yeast, a touch of booze.

Taste - More plum, molasses, and a minerally bitterness.

Mouthfeel - medium bodied with strong carbonation. Very fine carbonation gives this a creamy/crisp texture that matches perfectly with the flavours.

Nothing wrong with this beer, but it's not as complicated and delicious as others in its style.

Appearance was outstanding. A perfect two finger tan head made my table mates want to order one of these. Brown colored beer.

The smell is pretty good. Some Belgian yeasts, some sweet maltiness, some dark fruits. But not as much smell as I'd like.

The taste is more sweet dark fruits, and sugary malt sweetness, with only a touch of hoppiness. Belgian yeasts come through here too. For an 8% ABV, I was surprised it didn't have a thicker mouthfeel. This is deceptively smooth and easy to drink, but it wasn't so awesomely good that I'd want several.

Had this on tap at the Sugarbowl in Edmonton in a chalice.

A - deep brown in color with a thick, one finger+ tan head that coast the glass in thick sheets of lacing

S - lots of dark fruits and caramel on the nose, some raisin and a hint of grassy/earthiness in the background

T - really complex with some initial hops bitterness that melts into a huge tangy, dark fruit/raisin backbone; some initial sweetness totally overtaken by the dark fruit

M - exceptionally smooth (perhaps a positive side-effect of being on tap). Literally velvety in the mouth with just the slightest hint of carbonation to offset it. Not boozy at all

D - goes down very easily; dangerous

This was a very delicious beer that can serve either as a nice sipper or can be quaffed with a vengeance! An excellent cold weather drink!

Maredsous 750ml poured into ceramic Maredsous goblet and a Chimay chalice as well.

A- Pours out with a dark brown body and a big light tan head. The head never disappears and ends as a nice thick pillow on the beer with a creamy texture. Lace is plentiful down the glass.

S- Mostly comes off as a mixture of Belgian yeast spice, caramelized dark sugars and dark fruit/raisins.

T- Belgian yeast driven ale with notes of spice, dark raisins, dark fruit (cherry, red), apple, clove, bread and banana. Malt is toasty, nutty and carmelized. The raisins and dark fruit (slightly medicinal) strike me as the strongest.

MF- Silky moderately thick body with a lower than expected carbonation level. Finishes off a bit bitter with some warmth on the palate.

A good Dubbel but it is a bit strong on the raisin and somewhat medicinal for me, not as carbonated as I would expect either. Just not as smooth as many similar ales.
