Got in a trade from Shanex. 330ml bottle into signature tulip glass, best before 4/2022. Pours slightly hazy pale golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger foamy and fluffy white head with poor retention, that reduces to a minimal spotty lace cap. Minimal lacing on the glass, and a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Good appearance. Aromas and flavors of big lemon, lime, peach, pear, apricot, red apple, melon, coconut, peppercorn, light banana/bubblegum/clove, cracker, white bread dough, light toast/biscuit, wood, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Moderate herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness; and yeast spiciness on the finish. Light pine. Lingering notes of lemon, lime, peach, pear, apricot, red apple, melon, coconut, peppercorn, cracker, white bread dough, light toast/biscuit, wood, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, citrus/earthy hops, and pale malt flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and no lingering hop astringency after the finish. Fairly crisp/clean finishing. Moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitter/spiciness and carbonation. Medium-high carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth and moderately bready/grainy/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Light lingering resins/rinds through the glass. Mild increasing warmth of 9.5% through the glass. Overall this is an awesome Belgian IPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, citrus/earthy hops, and pale malt flavors; very smooth and fairly crisp/clean to drink for the big ABV with the moderately bitter/spicy/drying finish; not overly aggressive. Minimal residual sweetness with crisp resin dryness. Great showcase of the single hop as expected, and spot on style as expected of the brewery.

Pours a pale golden coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of doughy malt, lemongrass and lime peel, with hints of coconut, white grape and fruity esters of green apple. Taste follows the nose, with a good balance of doughy malt, citrus/tropical hops and fruity esters, with notes of lemongrass, lime peel, tangerine, white grape and lighter notes of coconut, pineapple, grass and herbs. Finishes with a light bitterness and some tropical and citrus notes lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

At first I really thought that I prefered the Citra version to this, but it really grew on me with an intense and pretty unique lemongrass character and lighter notes of coconut and pineapple, almost giving this a certain pina colada feel, without ever becoming too sweet though, actually taking on a lightly tangy aspect instead. This is also significantly less sweet, boozy and estery than other Duvel varieties, while still maintaining a light, estery feel to it.

This was the first bottle of beer I had at sea in our new boat yesterday. It was not well chilled but it came in strong anyway in the sunny and windy conditions we had. Sadly I had but this only bottle. Must it stay in memory a long time.

330 ml bottle served cold into a Chimay chalice. LCBO purchase for $4.75 CDN, naturally I grabbed 6 of them. Not clear if this is actually a 2019 brew or whether it was updated again in 2020 with Cashmere. Best before July 2021. On my wish list since last year.

Appearance - A gentle pour yielded a lightly hazy rich golden brew with two fingers of dense white head that rests on top. Head retention is phenomenal, lacing is semi-sparse with some soapy residue staying behind.

Smell - Doughy bready yeast, hints of candi sugar and orchard fruit with a whiff of tropical melon, possibly the faintest hint of coconut.

Taste - Clean and crisp, doughy and bready malts, some orange mixed in with lots of orchard fruit like pears and apples, grapes show with some force and there is a subtle coconut hint again. Closer to Duvel in many away than some of the other Duvel IPA's were because these hop combos seems to stray less far from the original classic beer (as opposed to CItra hops). Booze is definitely present, but well enough concealed, you'd be hard pressed to guess you're drinking 19 proof booze.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, tons of lively and crisp carbonation. Finishes with a faint hint of alcohol burn, the tongue finds this brew off-dry to close.

Overall - A very solid Belgian IPA, maybe not quite as good as a couple of the others by Duvel but still a very strong showing, no regrets on picking up six, but they will be savored as they don't quite blow my mind enough to justify a more sizable purchase at these prices.

330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 9.5%. Pale golden colour, large white head. Aroma of spicy Belgian ale yeast, sweetish pilsener malts, and herbal and spicy hops. The flavour is slightly citric and moderately spicy, also with sweet notes of pilsener malts.

Belgian IPAs are markedly different than the North American ones. Most of you know this, but if you don't, keep in mind. There is more of a saison element to them. This manifests itself in the slight head retention, but even more so in the nose, which has an herbal and spicy essence, similar to La Chouffe or even St. Feuillien Grand Cru.
The taste here however is not quite a winner with the Cashmere hops utilized. It's a little sour and comes across as an underdeveloped saison.
Worth a try, but that's about it.
