Looks like this was first released a couple years back for the brewery's 5th anniversary... time seems to have flown by, as I remember when Wormtown was only a couple years old and my good buddy Pat was raving about them when they were operating out of Peppercorn's in Worcester. I guess we're on the calendar year of their 7th anniversary now, and this triple IPA is seeing some slight distribution. Picked up a single bottle at Craft Beer Cellar Westford. Bottled 9/28/17 and clocks in at 10.7% ABV.

Pours a nearly entirely-hazy orange color. Very deep hue to this one, but it's also quite homogeneous. Superb lace and retention. Dripping cobwebs of foam coat the inside of my glass with sticky residue as a tightly-structured lattice of crystalline bubbles sits at about a finger-and-a-half atop the moderately hazy surface. Nice looking stuff. I like the haze combined with the deep orange tone a lot... looks a little bit more characterful than a lot of big IPAs I've seen lately.

Nose is grassy and dank upfront, with a focus on earthy, leafy hops with some herbal components coming out as well. Light notes of grapefruit pith, mango and pineapple. Caramel and biscuity malt punctuating the aroma here... the unabashedly resinous and intense hop profile is certainly felt, but it feels markedly less fruity than some other reviewers have suggested. I can definitely pick up some catty elements and light notes of red berries, so this likely includes Mosaic to a pretty hefty extent. The spice and dank notes really pop out to me, though, overall. Decent nose, but it doesn't really seem overly promising in the realm of triple IPAs (of which I've had a lot of meh/low-quality examples of as well as several stand-out exemplars).

Flavor is a bit savory, dank, piney and resinous with some ruby red grapefruit, raspberry, citrus rind and Meyer lemon notes alongside the catty, pushy bittering hops. A little bit fruitier here than in the nose, but then there's also a dollop of caramel-leaning malt towards the mid-palate that keeps things anchored in the realm of balance overall. That's not to say the bitter punch towards the end lacks heft whatsoever, though, as each small sip of this beer absolutely pummels the palate with intense hoppiness. It's just that this particular recipe feels kind of reined in compared to some other double-digit ABV IPAs. I don't think that's a bad thing, but it also means this lacks its own distinctive character and doesn't particularly stand out in my opinion. Still fairly tasty, though.

Feel is rather thick and syrupy, as is par-for-the-course with this sub-style. It features a somewhat viscous malty character and a subtle, effective carbonation that tends to massage the palate instead of bubbling/building up to unload all of the hop flavors at once in the finish... and that's a good thing because there's a lot to go around with this brew.

I enjoy the way this looks and drinks, but the nose and flavors are not as powerful or as distinct as I want them to be. I get the feeling this is either heavily Mosaic-forward (perhaps single-hopped though I highly doubt that) or there are too many different hops contributing to some haranguing of the palate. Perhaps some changes in hop varietals or expression would get this to the next level. I look forward to trying future batches to compare notes with, of course!

Wow. Went to Wormtown to get some fresh "Be Hoppy" and I was blown away by a sample of "Be Hoppiest" which "resinated" with my taste buds. Can't say I experienced any of the bubblegum flavor mentioned by another reviewer. Just a fresh slap of piney hops in a cloudy amber brew.

On-tap 12/16/2016 at Natty Greene's Tavern in North Attleboro, MA, served in a tulip glass.

A: The beer is a light cloudy gold color, with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains strong grapefruit along with floral hops, caramelized malts and some other citrus fruits.

T: The taste starts out very sweet with flavors of strong fruity citrus and caramel. Then a strong but not over-powering hops presence comes in along with a touch of an alcohol sting. The malt character is hearty and brings a very good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and very smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down dangerously easy, not too filling, strong kick, good representation of style, this is a solid 2IPA to drink for a while.

Tap at brewery
Nice creamy foamy head, thick and fades slowly, murky bright reddish toasty orange color.

Nose explodes with hops, tons of citrus and tropical fruit, mango, orange cream, grapefruit, pineapple, a big tropical fruit punch, hint of sweet malt.

Taste brings a huge flavor of malts and hops, sweet toasty malt, creamy malt with touch of booze warmth and I think fusel note on the back end, sticky, etc. Big hops, quite spicy, with generic tropical fruit again, mango flesh, stone fruit kumquat apricot like, fleshy fruit, little citrus, earthy notes with the spicy, and very bitter. Finish is sticky mildly sweet, bit more booze, super spicy crazy bitter but balanced with the sweet malt.

Mouth thick creamy, little sticky note, decent carb, hint of booze.
