From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #60 (Jan 2012):

LOOK: Brilliant pale gold color

SMELL: Toasted orange peel, mint, evergreen, ripe pears, figs, hemp seeds, white peppercorn, caramel, cake batter

TASTE: Think resin, floral, herbal, oily, fresh tobacco, citric rind, fresh mint, guava, very bitter, passionfruit, dates, dry finish

This is a sleeper IPA, waiting patiently for more people to try it. Despite the gripes of West Coast naysayers, it appears East Coast brewers can indeed brew hoppy beers of epic proportions. It certainly sent our palates for a ride and fed our hop addiction. A must-try for hopheads.

I tried this beer on draft at a bar in the summer BEFORE knowing any of the hype... and my eyes went wide after the first sip.

Every sip after that, I kept exclaiming to people at the table how good this beer was. For me, it was the kind of beer I've always been looking for. I'm really into IPAs, but I too often feel like they go overboard with the hops, rendering the beer skunky and hard to drink. This beer on the other hand had the perfect level of flavor, but was also extremely drinkable and refreshing. Medium bodied, crisp, and the aftertaste was just pure joy. Had a very very slight hint of grapefruit which made it great for warm weather.

Probably my all time favorite beer, and again, I decided that after the first sip BEFORE even having a clue about the hype.

Light copper, faded gold, almost pilsner-like contents emptied into the glass. The look of IPAs gone by. Patch lacing reduction byproduct from a finger's worth of head. A ton of biscuit in the nose with citrusy undertones. Sparse grapefruit, faint lemon and orange rind. Overwhelmingly doughy upon further raises of the glass. The taste works as the citrus-like qualities grab the palate from front to back end, exhibit a multitude of herbaceous attributes, and finish bitter. The best part of the beer. The feel is prickly, and marginally dry. This is a good beer, but I don't think it stands with the modern interpretation of the IPA which, for me, is the cat's meow. To each their own. Give me that juicy, turbid sh*t and I'll be happy. Cheers, BA.

Can poured into a 12oz glass / second tasting on tap

Hazy yellow, some carbonation, dense, fluffy, one finger white foam cap

Aroma of citrus and pine hops

Bitter notes on the first sip on the front of the tongue. Bitter again, second sip. I am not getting the flavor notes. Sharp aftertaste that quickly fades. Good sudsing.
Better on tap

Very bitter beer, not getting the flavor notes

Got in a BIF from tasterschoice62. 16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 3/7/2016. Pours lightly hazy deep golden yellow color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, light honey, cracker, bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of bright/dank citrus/tropical/pine hops and light-moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, light pepper, pine, light honey, cracker, bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of pine/citrus rind/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon/orange rind, pepper, pine, cracker, bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of bright/dank bright/dank citrus/tropical/pine hops and light-moderate pale malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero astringent hop flavors after the finish. Good amount of dryness from bitterness as well. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, sticky/resinous, and lightly grainy/bready balanced mouthfeel that is awesome. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an outstanding IPA! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of bright/dank citrus/tropical/pine hops and light-moderate pale malt flavors; and very smooth, crisp, and easy to drink. A highly enjoyable offering.

Hands down my favorite beer right now. Amazing.
It sports a solid 2-finger off-white head that holds firm and relaxes to form craters and great lacing on the glass. The color is a hazy light amber. The aroma is of strong, fresh hops with a sweet floral high note. the taste is of citrus balanced with light biscuit. A perfect bitter hop finish follows through to the swallow.

On draft @ the Horseshoe Pub in Hudson, MA.

A: This beer pours a slightly hazy light golden color with a one finger of white head. Head recedes relatively quickly and leaves nice wisped lacing on the glass.

S: Nose is floral hops, pepper, a touch of pine and a nice solid bready, malt backbone.

T: Taste starts with a nice peppery, floral note before a nice balanced bready, malt fills through the middle with hints of grapefruit. Finish has an underlaying grapefruit flavoring that compliments a strong pine presence.

M: Medium body, medium carbonation, oily feel with a rather dry finish.

O: Goes down easily, tasty, not too filling, mild kick, nice representation of style. I haven't had an IPA with much floral notes lately, so this was a nice change of pace and very nicely done.

Pours hazy, gold in color, with 1/4 inch head. Taste is lemon and grapefruit rind. Moderately bitter and medium bodied. Above average ipa, but I have several others in the style that I prefer.
