22 oz bottle poured into a Hinterland Stange

A - Thick gobs of stark white lace cake the slender glass after the billowing head drops to a skim of foam on the clear pale golden yellow beer. Sister Golden looks the part!

S - Sister Golden also smells the part with a classic Kölsch nose right from the get-go! Grainy pale malt and soft hops give the beer a wonderfully simple aroma that's further authenticated by overarching mineral water-like nose underscored by slight fruity suggestions of white grape.

T - Crisp malt provides a grainy bite and just enough sweetness to stand up to the buoyant noble hop flavor that imparts a great level of earthiness and subtle spice along the hard mineral water finish of the beer.

M - Lovely carbonation sparkles on the tongue giving Sister Golden an effervescent, light feel without making it drink like a macro lager. Hop bitterness and dryness lingers on the palate with a slightly flirtatious daintiness, suggesting another sip.

O - Sister Golden is a light and easy drinking beer that drinks like a "light beer" to the untrained geek but it's subtleties of German hops and careful balance give it the necessary delicate characteristics of earthy spice to make it both a tasty treat as well as very nice Kölsch.

Sampled 10/9/2010 at the brewpub.

Pours yellow with hints of orange, pretty clear, white head, not much retention but some lacing.

Aroma is malt, grape, corn.

Flavor is German but sweet and malt like a Blonde Ale. A touch of white wine and a little stale malt with medium bitterness are present too.

Body is medium, a bit heavier than a Kolsch or a Blonde Ale should be. Drinkable but not more than a half pint.

Tick.
