On-tap at 3 Cellars, Franklin, WI:

Pours copper with a wispy head. Some trailing lace sticks.

The taste is of caramel with pine/wood.

The taste is of caramel with wood/pine. A peppery spice lingers in the finish.

Pretty smooth.

A nice IPA with a woody/earthy tone. Nice spicy dryness in the finish.

22 oz bottle poured into a Sierra Nevada imperial pint.
6.5% ABV

A - Woodshed has a flawless appearance; brilliant golden with a towering, well-retained eggshell head that cakes the pint glass in heavy gobs of lace as it plateaus to a lumpy pile.

S - Freshly cut cedar and wood paneling keep the beer's name at the front of the mind while English hops fill in the cracks with grassy earthiness and unique undertones of orange marmalade and yellow birthday cake! The aroma isn't bursting but it's incredibly unique and extremely inviting!

T - Dominant earthiness brings oak spiral and wood chip notes but the balance is maintained well with earthy hops; grassy characteristics as well as the aroma's charming fruitiness, all come together nicely with caramel-laced malt.

M - The perfect level of dry bitterness washes over the tongue, lingering after this creamy, smooth IPA goes down!

O - All things considered, the name of this beer must have come easily to the guys at Vintage. With it's cedar-like nose and oak spiral-infused flavor, Vintage has put a fantastic twist on the nearly over-done IPA style. They take it up a notch, further adding nuances of orange marmalade and yellow cake to the mix, making Woodshed a brilliantly balanced and drinkable beer that's unlike any other IPA out there!

I had this one on tap at the brewery.

Smell was full of hops with some citrus and woodsy notes to it. Taste was very very good. Lots of bitter hops throughout. A bit of oak flavor coming through as well. Medium bodied mouthfeel. This beer went down great with my dinner. I really enjoyed this one and will definitely be trying it again on a return trip to the Vintage.

Clean and clear orange pour from the cask. Consistent quarter inch head retains throughout and leaves a steady stream of lacing. Served in a British pint glass.

Smells of tree bark and spicy hops. Certainly in the British vein.

Drinks of soft bitterness and pine with a creamy woodsy finish.

Creamy, soft, and low on carbonation which is appropriate for the cask serving.

A pretty straight forward British style cask beer.

a: pretty dark in the bar, but color seemed a bronze/orange. clear and an ok white head.
s: some earthy and fruity english hops along with woodsy notes from the oak. sweetish aroma as well, but all in all, pretty subtle for an ipa.
t: sweet malts are amped up a bit by the vanilla character from the oak. smooth hops balance it out. some lingering sweetness. the bitterness is restrained.
m: just over medium-bodied, creamy, maybe a bit slick/sticky.
o: oaked ipa's are not something i seek out, but this was pretty good.

A - A clear orangish yellow body with a half insh of white head leaving way for wisps and nice lacing.

S - Malty and rather empty. There is nothing in the aroma making me think this beer could be considered an IPA.

T - There's a slight candy taste with no hop presence what-so-ever. Very disappointed with how this beers flavors presented themselves.

M - Watery and slightly coarse with a slight stickiness on my lips.

~ I will never have this beer again and would certainly not recommend it to a friend.

From notes on 2/8/14

Ok IPA. Lite bittery hoppy taste. Decent amount oaky flavors come through. I don’t really get any fruit flavor.
