Visited some friends in Somerville and they suggested we go here for Saturday night dinner. The restaurant had a nice neighborhood feel to it thanks to its cozy atmosphere and setup. A rectangular bar area is to one's left when you enter and there are several rows of tables to one's right. Not too many people can fit in the place on a busy night I imagine, but we got our seats (table for 4) relatively quickly when we went to eat at around 5:15 PM.

The wait staff was quite nice and attentive even though the restaurant was getting busier and busier. We decided to get two appetizers: the buffalo Brussels sprouts and the grilled corn. The corn was great and the sprouts were a fantastic surprise. For my meal, I had the Cuban Reuben sandwich, which was out of this world good. Very meaty and rich with great portions. Beer selection at the restaurant seemed decent. The menu seemed gear toward mixed drinks and cocktails which my friends recommended. In looking at the drink menu, the restaurant had a few good bottle and draught choices. I chose to drink the Pretty Things Jack D'Or and then a Narragansett.

Overall, I had a great time with friends at this place and, if I was a local, i would go to the Highland Kitchen regularly.

The time of day I went here was busy so I was sitting back trying to get the attention of the bartender. The beers on tap was a little refreshing from the normal chain restaurant beers I am used to. I asked for a Pretty Things Jack D'Or but ended up with Pretty Things Baby Tree which was happy to have on this Saturday. A short but sweet craft beer list got me interested as to what I could pair with the really wonderful menu that I was happy to say was pretty impressive. The staff didn't have the most knowledge of beer but were able to give me an idea what would go with my meal and I quite enjoyed the pairing. A nice place for the price I was thrilled to spend the night here and I will be returning.
