Zeunerts Höga Kusten has created a beer category of its own with its mix of 70% lager and 30% ale. Our light lager and top-fermented ale age together for eight weeks to give the beer its characteristic flavour, aroma and appearance. Höga Kusten is made to honour the brewery’s local area and goes equally well with food or on its own.

July 2003: (500 ml bottle). Allegedly a combination of lager and altbier. The lager is the winner. Light golden brown colour. Malty aroma with hints of new-mown hay. Malty flavour with a not-too-pleasant bitterness. Drinkable, not outstanding. I'd prefer an altbier!

Appearance is a nice rich amber, foamy head. Smell of honey, brown sugar and grassy hops. Taste is a good balance of depth of ale sweetness, maltiness and crisp refreshing lager with quite a hoppy aftertaste. A good balance of a lager and an ale.
I really liked this despite its generally low acclaim and wish I could get my hands on some more.

It pours a bright, clear, amber body with visible carbonation. Thick white head with good amount of lacing.
It has a rich and sweet aroma of pale malts, plum, brown sugar and honey.
The taste has sweet, bready malts, with a pleasant amount of grassy hops. The taste of malts linger on in the finish, along with slight metallic notes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, lightly bitter and medium carbonated.
Unique and very pleasant.

Bottled
Golden bodied and with some giggery pokery created a tiny white head
some golden syrup on the aroma and some mixed coins but very muted
Muted flavours to, some corn syrup some bitterness
quite light for 5.3%
I would take this over say a bud or a carlsberg but not over any real ale

440 ml can purchased and consumed near Hora Stakion, Crete, GR.
An unexceptional but refreshing beer. More hop than malts in the flavor.
Very mildly bitter.

The colour is gold (7 EBC), the liquid clear. The three finger head is compact and uneven. It sinks slowly leaving some lacing.
The smell is malty with some semi-sweet caramel flavours. Hints of apricots and a somewhat chemical bitterness. There are some phenolic hints of soap.
The taste got both clean lager-like flavours and fruity ale-flavours. Lots of malt, but not too much sweetness. Some chemical bitter notes with hints of red berries and hay. The aftertaste is quite mild, short and mostly sweet plus a touch of metallic bitterness.
The carbonation is strong and lager-like with small bubbles. The liquid is mid-smooth.

A 50 cl brown short-necked bottle with a label with a picture of the "Höga-Kusten-Bron" (the bridge of "Höga Kusten").
A: Gloden pour with a really large airy head. That takes it's time to dissipate. Lot of lacings.
S: Malt and citric notes, but not a strong smell. A metallic off-smell...
T: Sweet malt, bready/doughy. Citric notes, mostly oranges.
M: Creamy medium body with medium carbonation. Aftertaste is rather short and both sweet and faint bitter.
D: Not a beer I'll buy again. Not bad, but not the opposite either.
