A 330ml can with a BB of March 2018. Purchased a while back from Morrisons. The label describes it as a post-fermentation blend of a light lager and a dark ale.

A: Poured into a tulip. A very deep orange-amber colour with decent clarity and some floating sediment that looks like coagulated protein. Good carbonation. Forms a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a minute or two before subsiding to a patchy surface layer.

S: Aroma of light, grainy malt with hints of fruity yeast esters, mild barley sugar, corn, faint stewed leaves/husks and a touch of earthiness. A slightly harsh twinge of cardboard in the background. Not great.

T: Tastes of light malt with notes of subtle fruity yeast esters, mild grain, stewed leaves/husks, corn, wet cardboard and a nasty solvent-like undertone lurking in the background. Pretty dry, followed by an understated bitterness upon swallowing.

M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with spritzy carbonation and average body for the style. Slightly astringent. Aftertaste of acrid stewed leaves, grain, light malt, faint yeast esters and a hint of solvent.

O: Not very nice. Looks OK, however the aroma and flavour are seriously flawed with unpleasant off-notes of cardboard, stewed leaves and solvent. Typical body. A decidedly subpar drinking experience and not one that I'd recommend to others.

The colour is gold, the liquid clear. The three finger head is off-white and compact. It sinks slowly leaving some lacing on the glass.

The smell is sweet and malty with notes of prunes and dried apples. Hints of toffee and a touch of chalk.

The taste is smooth and malty with notes of brown toast and some dried fruits. Passing clean bitterness. Full body. Toffee in the aftertaste as well as some cookie dough, prunes and rye bread. The smooth finish is malty and clean with the right balance between the sweetness and the bitterness.

The carbonation is strong, the mid-sized bubbles are fresh and long-lived. The liquid is smooth.

A very smooth and highly balanced brew.

I am quite sure that this beer is sold as “Zeunerts Höga Kusten” in Sweden.
