Bomber bottle w/o freshness/vintage date.

Pours dark brown (def not "black" minor lite tan head

Nose of dull chocolate

Smooth and tasty, with notes of more milk chocolate, toffee and a hint of vanilla. Alcohol well hidden.

Easy drinking super mellow and enjoyable AB. More chocolate in the super smooth finish.

Nicely done and happy to have taken a chance on this one..

Had on tap.

A- Poured a deep brown with plum light highlights when held to the light. One finger off white head shows medium retention. Ringy lacing to start with that becomes a little streaky as you drink the beer down.

S- Darker fruits come out (cherry, fig, little prune) with a bready almost caramel malt. I really enjoy the backend of the aroma as it showed a light roasted character with hints of smoke here and there. Alcohol is very subdue for the style I thought. Very interesting aroma overall and this is meant in a good way.

T- Caramel malts in the front with a hints of darker fruit (mostly cherry I thought). This gets washed away and covered up with a roasted malt and light hints of smoked char. The back half of the beer itself is hoppy but in a clean way if that makes sence...I would say noble style hops are used in this. Some hints of darker fruit and a nice warming alcohol finish on this beer wraps everything together quite nice.

M- Medium mouthfeel. Carbonation is good for the style. Light roasted malts and darker fruit are left on the palate with a hint of alcohol. Aftertaste is warming alcohol, cherry, slick hops, and fading roasted malts. Flavors were very well put together making it a smooth drinking beer. No off flavors were present on the many samples I had of this beer. Medium alcohol drying on the palate.

D- This was a nice drinker which I wasn't surprised coming from this company. I enjoyed how well the alcohol was masked until the end but even then there wasn't a problem with it. The ABV is there in the back end but only for a second.

Appearance- a nearly non-existent head, dark brown to black color.

Smell- all malt with this brew. Dry fruit, chocolate, and spicy hops make for a unique and satisfying aroma.

Taste- licorice, dark chocolate, and dry cherry make for a complex experience. Definitely want to sip on this to let the flavor profile show off a bit.

Mouth feel- thick leaving a sticky sweet film on your lips.

Overall I would say a perfect after dinner beer. Consider buying a growler or bottle for thanksgiving.

On tap at Tomlinson Tap Room. Poured a very nice deep copper/brown, with good head and lacing. Hugely thick and sweet malt aroma. Same with the flavors, with a decent citrus hop taste to it. Fairly alcohol hot, even considering its high ABV (which was listed as 11.0% at Tomlinson.)

The bottle advertises this as a black barleywine. As a consequence, one might expect a malty profile before tasting.

The beer was just released and I purchased the bottle at the brewery yesterday. The aroma bears a modreate level of maltiness, though not overpowering. The head was limited, which is generally true to form for a barleywine. The initial taste bears a strong maltiness with hints of prunes and tart cherries. The sweetness is somewaht muted for a barleywine. Even after the initial taste mellows into the aftertaste, the malt still lingers while coating the tongue. The aftertaste produces a warming flavor in the back of the thraot that fades quickly. A slight medicine flavor lingers.

Date Night with Jumbo Love by Figure 8 improves upon this barleywine which is slightly better than average. The sweetness of a barelywine is lacking, making this somewhat of a dry barleywine.
