Cool brewpub just south of downtown and LL Bean. Pretty sprawled out place not sure I saw all of it. Taproom to the right of the entrance with straight bar on right wall that seats about 15 with a few tables about the room. There is at least one other dining room and judging from the lunch crowd it a popular eatery. 10 beers on tap, I had the Bob's which was ok.

Reliable Portland watering hole. About 8-10 Grittys brews on tap, and available in the form of a sampler. Fairly standard New England pub menu with some variety to choose from. Kid friendly and with a nice open porch out back. Merch store with bombers and loads of shirts.

Kinda touristy but in a good way. With LL Bean being the big draw there is certainly no shortage of people in Freeport and the pressure to get people to your establishment has to be scary, but Gritty's does well. And for a good reason. Good food, great service, and some decent beers. I stop there just about every time I'm in Freeport.

The atmosphere reminds me of a ski lodge. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Even when the place was packed. Friendly to the kids also.

sister restaurant of the Portland based grittys, a fun place to visit, but the food is a lot better than the beer. I worked my way through the whole lineup, but was unimpressed by any of them for the most part, even finding the ipa to be quite poor. the lobster rolls and lobster mac and cheese were right on though, a must when in this part of the country, as was the rhubarb dessert. maybe six or seven beers on, in an open seating loud beer hall type setting. big back deck and yard, and one of those places where you sit with strangers, which is cool if you are traveling. service was decent considering how busy it was, and again, the food was very good. not really a beer destination though, I found them all to be generic and weak in some ways, under carbonated, and similar in a bad way. the fermenters were neat though, insulated with brick, never seen that before. overall a good stop for a meal on the maine brewery trip, but the beers were less than stellar, and that's the most important thing.

Stopped here for lunch the other day. Beer selection was OK, as they have the standard Gritty’s fare. The beers are good, with a fairly varied selection. the food was fairly standard pub offerings. It was tasty and was served quickly. The service was also good. Well worth a stop when in the area.

A stop before the Freeport Outlet shops, this brewpub offers a decent place for a lunch and beverage before hitting the stores. Seating at long tables. This place feels like someone converted their garage into a bar (on that budget).

Beer is fresh and there is enough variety on tap to satisfy picky palates. Food is decent pub fare, with some tasty twists. But if you want fish or a burger, you are all set. Waitstaff was friendly and attentive, and all elements were in the appropriate price range.

Overall, if this particular place was located in a downtown area in a bigger icty, it might just die there. it certainly, as far as atomosphere is concerned, is nothing like the Portland location. But the beverages and food measure up. And it is by far the best place to check out if hitting the shopping outlets.

A great little brewpub in Freeport. My advice is to let the women go shopping at all the Outlets a mile up the road and wait for them here. A warm, inviting brewpub witha nice atomsphere, great pub food at very reasobnable prices. The wait staff are very knowledgable about beers and the brewer is frequently available to sit down and have a beer with you and discuss his brewing philosophy. Always nice to see the brewing equipment prominently displayed too.

Beware though, in the summers it can get very crowded, and definitely avoid it the day of the Daytonna 500.

Wifeness and I stopped in here after a day of outlet shopping, as I am sure many folks do. Really cool vibe in here. "Seat yourself" meant we grabbed tables in the bar area. Long tables with benches that are meant to be shared with other parties. Beer decor on the walls along with various New England themed decorations. Windows at the end of the bar allow for viewing of the beer being made. Gritty's had 6 or 7 of their beers on tap, including their 21 IPA on cask, which I ordered. Wife ordered the stout. Both beers were excellent. A really good menu that includes Maine fare that you'd expect. Wife ordered a spicy haddock burrito. I ordered the twin lobster rolls. Damn was that food good. The service was attentive and friendly and made us feel welcomed there. The "pro shop", as I call it, had lots of t-shirts and three dollar bombers. You can't beat that!

Overall, Gritty's was a real nice dining experience and there is no doubt we'll be back. :)

One of my favorite pubs. They have wide open dining areas w picnic bench type seating. A very family oriented place with a wide variety of fare from classic pub style foods to great seafood and some really great chowdah's! They always have an ale featured off cask which is always a cellar temp and wicked delicious. They have outside seating with a cool large grassy area for kids to play in. It's maybe a mile from downtown Freeport near the great shopping. Fantastic beer, food, and wait staff. Just a friendly place overall.

Visited the Gritty McDuff's pub on 4th of July for lunch around midday. We were seated promptly out on the patio. The atmosphere is uber kid friendly. A large fenced in grassy area for families to play. There is also a kid sized clubhouse to enhance the kid experience.
The patio area is good sized and not exclusive. Lots of picnic style seating with umbrellas for the sunny weather and equipped with heaters when it gets a bit chillier.
The interior is an old style "woodsy" pub decor, where the frequent drinkers' mugs hang above the bar. From the inside pub there is a viewing deck into the brew house.
All the standard McDuff brews on tap, plus a few others - raspberry light and a cask IPA (that is hand drawn).
The staff is very friendly and provided quick service.
The food is great pub fare with a diverse selection from normal burgers to seaside fare to vegetarian options, as well as a kid's menu.

Ahhh...Gritty's in Freeport. Everytime my wife and I go to Freeport so she can shop I demand we stop in to see whats new at Gritty's.

Summer is awesome here, great outdoor deck with a "yard" area that doubles as a place for the kids to run around and a place for live music. They also have some hops growing off the deck if you look closely.

Beer selection is all the regular Gritty's plus a cask, seasonal and sometimes a random offering. I've had some good one offs here.

The buffalo burger is great as are the pretzels.

This place gets packed in the summer but the rest of the year its a great place for pint inside near the bar.

Worth checking out if the wife/husband/partner wants to do some outlet shopping down the road.

Went here for lunch last week while on vacation. Food was fantastic. I got a great burger and the others in my party really enjoyed their food as well. They had their IPA and Scottish Ale on cask. I tried the IPA, while my wife had the Scottish. The IPA was excellent, but something was way off with the Scottish (hence the slight hit in quality). Other than that, everything was great. The waitress/bartender was very attentive and helpful (and it helped that she was a Phishhead). The atmosphere was friendly and comfortable with some great classic rock (but not your standard overdone classic rock) playing.

All in all, it's definitely worth a stop if you're in Freeport. They have a small store where you can buy their beer in single bottles, by the case, or a 5 liter minikeg, along with other merchandise.

I was in Freeport last February and stumbled onto Gritty's for lunch. Great beers and a shitload of funny Mainers with their earflap-hats and focking May-nuh ahk-cents, Bub!

Food's pretty good for pub grub, the menu is pretty big and really helpful in suggesting beer pairings with the dishes... a number of which incorporate the beers on tap in their ingredients... Lots of regular patrons' mugs hanging over the bar; gift shop on premises and you can buy beer and clever T-shirts, to go.

Lots of good beers on tap; my favorite was the 'Black Fly Stout'. A true session beer that seemed to predominate all the mugs I spied on.

Wooden picnic tables in the dining room, prompt service, and seating with strangers-made-friends makes this a super-good indoor German Hofbrau-style beer bar with surprisingly good food and colorful yokel entertainment aplenty.

Fun place to visit.

A good pub, atmosphere is decent although it's not as good as the Portland location. Seating is annoying (like all the other Gritty's though) with the long tables, makes for an anti-intimate pub setting if you're looking for peace or solitude.

Tap selection is, well, Gritty's (need you look further?). The Freeport location usually has a couple beers on cask which is nice, and during the season they sometimes have beers that aren't bottled so it's always a treat to see what it is each season.

The food is good although my gf and I thought the spinach and artichoke dip was awful (we get it pretty much at every pub we go to and this has been the worst), it's like all cream cheese mixed with some spinach bits, avoid. But they have this delicious item that has pulled pork, melted cheese on top of sweet potato fries, a must have appetizer that is a meal of it's own.
