A - Pours a near black, Coke-like color with a fizzy, moderate head. Amber and dark brown on the edges. Visible carbonation. Head shrinks fast, leaving barely a topper and essentially no lacing down the pint.

S - Good nose on this one, with a moderately strong note of maple as well as brown sugar, some dark fruit, roasty malts, and alcohol.

T - More subdued maple than the Lefty's Maple Ale, but still assertive and tasty. Roasted malt, some bitterness, and some licorice/brown sugar as well as earthy coffee in the finish.

MF - A bit fuller than the Maple Ale. Noticeable alcohol in the finish. Good carbonation and feel. Texture change from oats is perhaps too subtle.

O - I enjoyed the straight Maple Ale offering more, but this is a solid choice.

Had on tap at Fitzwilly's in Northampton. The beer had a black appearance with a thin ring of lacing around the glass. Aromas included that maple smell, which was a little burnt, mixed with malts and coffee. Taste generally followed the nose with a bit more of a coffee flavor than maple. Really great body with a perfect combination of creaminess with carbonation. Overall, a really enjoyable drink for the night.

22oz bottle purchased as a single from somewhere localish.

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a 1/4" beige head over the clear, barely translucent dark brown brew. Head dwindles rapidly, with leggy sheeting bubbles. Aroma is sweet dark malts.

Taste starts sweet, goes tart in the middle, close returns to a rounded sweetness. Tart continues through the end and lingers as well, unfortunately. Mouthfeel is smooth, and drinkability is limited by the tart that just doesn't seem like it belongs. For me it detracts from the entire experience.

A - Pours dark, small 1.5 finger head at the poor, that quickly settles to just a foamy top with lacy sides that follow it down to the last drop.

S - Smell, a moderate hint of maple/brown sugar, charred roasted malts, and a bit of alcohol sent. But at 10% ABV, that's to be expected.

T - Awesome! The Maple it is bit more subdued than other maples, most notably Lefty's Maple Ale. A good balance of maple, roasted malt, with a hint of coffee. Has a clean finish of roasted malt, licorice with an earthy bite of hop.

MF - Full body, one of the few big beers that can hold 10% ABV and not be overly boozy. that being said, the alcohol is noticeable, but hides well. Welly carbonated.

O - Perhaps one of my favorite local brew. Worth trying if you like stouts, this is your beer. Its maple done right. At 10%, you can enjoy alone, or mix in with a few others.

Lefty's is popping up more and more, putting some intriguing stuff out, including this - 10% Maple Oatmeal Stout, brewed with local syrup, etc. Hard to resist.

Bomber pours to a pint glass not quite black, dark brown with a beige head that retains decently. A thick ring is left at the end.

Definitely big maple in the scent, nice but seems to smother other flavors a bit. Some notes of chocolate, caramel, booze.

Taste is an improvement, but it's a little big on the sweetness for me. Maple forward with chocolate malts, caramel, some roasted coffee tones and bready malts. Does seem to meld a bit better after time, but the 'oatmeal' side is a bit lost on me.

Decent mouthfeel, a bit boozy and sweet, but it grows on you.

For the price I will probably pick this up again - there's also a barrel-aged version of this I'd love to try - it's certainly not the greatest or most complex stout but all in all enjoyable.

This is dangerous stuff... quaff-able, in the way that says 'drink me,' because I'm rich, but not overpowering, don't bite, slightly 'sweet' but not cloying... and you just know the next gulp will be just as good as this one! 'Problem' is, at 10% ABV, its gonna sneak up on you if you are not careful...

I want to start by saying i love some of Lefty's beers and others not so much, usually they fall at one end of the spectrum or the other.
With their Maple Oatmeal Stout i honestly kinda fell in the middle. I'm guessing they are using the same oatmeal stout base they use in their Chocolate. In that beer the two flavors work perfectly together. In this offering the maple covers up alot of the characteristics of the oatmeal stout that i like so much in the style, so you end with a overly sweet mouthfeel.
I will say that the maple comes through and though i find it to sweet i think that has more to do with the style of maple in beers then in the execution. It seems like in order to add enough maple to make in noticeable the sweetness is going to be a byproduct no matter what.
Overall would i have it again, sure , but i would reach for their chocolate oatmeal, breakfast stout, of irish dry well before this one.
