Recently received an email from a friend of a friend with an attachment that listed all the brands Glendale was going to offer since they were upgrading their craft beer selection. I kind of laughed since this store had only a few random crafts in the past, was proud to be "You're Malternative Headquarters", and when I asked if they had any Bigfoot one year, they had no clue what I was talking about despite carrying Sierra Nevada seasonals. Recently had a beer tasting that they advertised on a huge Corona banner outside the store.

So that should set the stage for the type of beer store this is. Sure they upgraded their selections to include more local micros and ticker type beer, but I get the impression that no one at the store has local knowledge or even craft knowledge and went with what the distributor recommended.

When I visited on Saturday afternoon, I noticed three workers outside in the parking lot playing wiffle ball. Must be a slow day. Kind of pissed me off when I got in the store and 3/4 of the prices are missing from bottles, no shelf tags for six packs in the fridge or 12 packs on the floor, no price lists for craft beer, only macros. Certainly there has been enough time to price the merchandise in the last 3-4 weeks or since they upgraded - especially if 3 employees have time to spend playing ball out in the parking lot. I consider that a sign of management - or lack thereof.

I looked at the prices that had them and they seemed to be even higher that local places that have good craft selections like Berman's and Gordon's - more in line with the uber expensive D&L down the street - so I can only assume the ones without prices that I was interested in would be more than I was willing to pay. With only one worker up front at the register - who was busy ringing people up- I just walked out without purchasing anything instead of bothering her, or the three guys outside playing.

Update 2/15/2012
Figured I'd take a look again - still the same situation with pricing - absolutely no prices on 6 and 12 packs. Asked the guy at the front desk why they weren't priced and he told me they are working on putting a price list on the cooler doors - I laughed and told him I was told that almost a year ago.
